Smoked Allegros and Pinerallos

the other smoked thread reminded me of a bike a shop i worked in the 70s sold...a swiss allegro...they were cream or white frames...i was told a lit candle was passed back and forth over the frame....the smoke left sort or a tiger stripe effect...i usually don't like fancy finishes(like copper lugs),but these bikes were stunning....

in the 80s i rode with a guy who had a pink pinarello with red letters with the same finish.....anyone have one of these?

I have an Allegro but it isn't smoked. Here's a picture of one that I saved for inspiration.

I've seen it done with a cutting torch, I believe the oxygen is turned down to get a very smoky flame... The flame does not get near enough to the finish to cause any paint damage. Here's another example on a Diamondback Apex I saw recently:

I hadn't seen a blue one before. That's really pretty. I might have to try that.
