Be Careful With Headset Sizes
After a frustrating afternoon, I determined that my 1981 Fuji America was indeed sized for JIS headset, not ISO as I had been told. I actually managed to install the headtube race and the bottom cup with an extreme amount of effort, but absolutely no way on the crown race, which finally spurred me to get out the micrometer.
The JIS cups still fit pretty snugly, so I'm hoping I didn't mess this up, but it would be nice to hear from people if I have screwed this up and should just go get it reamed, crown race seat milled to ISO. I'd like to stay with the JIS because I have some nice JIS headsets, but if the pooch is screwed...
Anyhow, yeah, first time I don't measure and boom, disaster. There is a lesson in there..
That got me curious. My 1986 Fuji Touring Series V is stripped to a bare frame. Turns out it is JIS too.
So be careful out there...
