Ann Arbor Bike Shop Recommendation

I have a friend who moved to Ann Arbor and would like to know which shop she should take her bike to for service. It is about a 15 year old hybrid and will be needing some simple things like cables and perhaps a tune up later in this season.

A few real good choices: Ann Arbor Cyclery, Great Lakes Cycles, Two Wheel Tango (a little less good, but you can get good work there), Midwest Bike and Tandem. There are some to avoid, but if you start with these, you'll be ok. The most experienced mechanics will be at the first two, but TWT is not all students. Great Lakes builds fantastic wheels.

C&V attitude is best at AAC, Great Lakes, and Midwest, but there's a fan at TWT.

But, there is only one shop in town with a bikeforums C&V member as the mechanic, Ann Arbor Cyclery. Which would be me of course. Three of my former coworkers work at TWT, and the owner of Great Lakes actually use to work at AA Cyclery and TWT at one point in the past. I send multiple people a day to TWT and Great Lakes if we don't have something they are looking for. Just tell her to never step foot into a Student Bike shop and she will do fine.

I forwarded the first two responses that folks gave and she wrote back telling me she had gone into Student Bike Shop once and immediately picked up on the lack of expertise.

A heart felt thanks to everyone for the information and guidance.
