ferries and bikes

Always a good mix when choosing a route, this one from yesterday. One of the joys of riding in Washington State. http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...d/IMG_0593.jpg

Tacoma>Pt Orchard, return via Vashon. Beautiful day for a ride

That is a nice area. I worked up there for a while in Silverdale and often wished I could have brought my bike. But then it was raining anyway, so it would not have mattered.

Toronto has a set of islands off the short of Lake Ontario, there are so many people who want to take bikes over there, that they actually limit the number of bikes on two of the three ferries - passenger ferries only, the third ferry often is filled with bicycles. Few people take a motor vehicle over, except city crews, because of the cost. I can take myself over for about $6.50, my bike goes for free, a car is $100 and a truck is $125. I think cars are so expensive because they want to discourage it. I would say last trip over with bikes, most would qualify as C&V -- Crappy and Very rusty.

Unless you actually live on the island, or working at the airport - there is very little reason to take your car onto the Toronto Islands. It's pretty much one big-giant park.
