It's not vintage, but I think it's pretty classic!

I bought this bike a few days ago and wasn't sure if I should post a thread about it or not. Khatfull said go for it, so I will. Let's start with the pictures:

So, it's a custom-made Paul Taylor bike made out of Columbus Foco steel. It's fillet-brazed which makes it look super clean. The downtube is this crazy rectangular shape that at first-glance makes you think it's aluminum. I was there to buy another bike from the guy and HAD to have this one, so I went back the next day and picked up this beauty. It's a 58cm and with a bit shorter stem, will fit me perfectly. Running gear is a full Dura Ace 7700 group with 9 speed indexed downtube shifters. Cool, huh? Wheelset is Mavic CXP33 with Dura Ace hubs and were handbuilt as well. There is just something amazing about owning a bike that was made 30 miles from your house. I guess this guy operates out of Mill Valley, CA. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos. Anyone is the Bay Area is welcome to come ride it!

Forgot to mention: it was never ridden when I bought it!

Never ridden? I cannot believe someone would invest so much into a bike and never ride it!

I love modern custom built steel bikes. Lots of awesome stuff around!

I don't dig those bars though. They NEVER work for me, and look a little off on that bike. Classic round bars would rock on that!

Since I'm the one that danged near talked him into it I;d better say beautiful bike!

I saw the pics Friday night and of course had to give my aesthetic suggestions :

1) Tires with a small blue stripe
2) Stem has to go to silver with that seat post and spacers.
3) Switch the bar tape to black.

My mockup:

You wouldn't believe how he agonized over this, hahaha. The excuse was "if it were only 1cm smaller". Hahaha... 1cm...THAT can be handled.

It is a beautiful bike, but Paul Taylor operates out of Gardnerville Nevada. I have a frame there now being painted.

Interesting, I guess I was wrong! It says Mill Valley, CA on it.

Anyway, yeah the bars are too wide anyhow so I'm going to replace those and the stem and then leave it at that. When it needs new tires, I'll throw something on with a blue stripe. I'll use black tape on the new bars. Keith hasn't ever steered me wrong in the aesthetics department, so I'll trust him on this one :-)

Thanks for all the kind words. It was sheer agony deciding whether or not to buy it. Since I bought it, I've sold two other bikes so I don't feel as bad anymore.

Balance Collinsan, balance.

You *could* do a blue Supercorsa saddle and keep the blue bar tape

Hahaha, I love spending YOUR money

Oh MAN that looks freakin' sweet. If I got that saddle, replaced this cheap bar tape with the Fizik perforated faux leather, I think we'd be in very good shape. I like this, I like it a lot.

Where do I find that seat? Of course now, you'll tell me it costs $3,000 right?

Edit: Oh, great, it's only available from Italy.

You guys rock. I think I like the Rolls. That's what's on it right now and I love it. The same thing in blue = win/win. While it's cheaper, I'll still have to buy blue bar tape. We'll see what I can work out. Thank you both!
