I think I'm finally assimilated....
 

I was out on the Tiara tonight (91 degrees, about 50% humidity, 20mph winds when I left!!! In MN!!!) and became aware of something for the first time:

I was shifting front and rear without looking down to the levers. I found my hands were going to exactly the right places and knew what to do without looking.

I have been assimilated. Resistance WAS futile.

Now work on getting your water bottle out of the cage, taking a drink, and putting the bottle back, all without looking down and without stopping your pedaling.

Wait until you decide to sell that other bike. Then, the process will be complete.

I hear you brother, I hail from Minnesota to (mankato area) I was sweating buckets. I didnt even bike hard, and half way home I realized I didnt tighten my brake pads back onto my brakes after taking them apart the other day...doh...

I do do that....I have the front shifter adjusted so that it's a few degrees above the down tube (I think this is typical right?) so it's easily reachable with the right hand. It feels like there's a soft detent there.

12 miles dead south into that wind, with the temp, and the humidity, was a tough time...the trip north wasn't so bad though :) OOH, and you remind me, my new pads and holders came today, I have to go down and install them!

I haven't even tried putting the Suntour Edge stuff on my 1989 Trek 400 in indexed mode. And I've found that I'm more stable just shifting both levers with my right hand, willing to do so with no shoulder and cars whizzing by without too much consternation.

It's so refreshing that a bike, with fresh consumables, is just as enjoyable today as whenever it was built. As opposed to computers, where aside from some timeless software, e.g. a classic game, it can be difficult to recapture the joy of using them back in the day.

If it hasn't occurred yet, ultimate assimilation will be when you're out on your brifter bike and reach down to shift.

you're next task is to do the same on rollers.

After 200+ miles on my replacement bike, I am finally able to shift single handed, retrieve and replace water bottle without looking. I was even able to do hands free while pedaling! The geometry is significantly different between the Le Campion and the Colnago (twitchy)!.
