Raleigh Record Ace
I picked up a Record Ace at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. It's in what I think fairly good condition. No rust, paint is in great shape and it rode very well. The stickers say it's made in England and it has a tour de france sticker too. The owner had put a different handlebar on it. It's not a straight bar but it rises just a little. It's a really nice little bike. I was going to flip but I really like riding it.
I put a few miles on it today and, wouldnt ya know it, the rear derailleur cable broke. When I was putting it in the basement I noticed one of the rear spokes was broken at the hub. Does anyone know if parts are available and where can I get the parts to fix it? Is it worth fixing it? I'd also like to replace the brake pads as they screech under a lot of pressure. Thanks! |
Photos? I am curious which RRA you have. Several iterations of the RRA were produced. This link will give you an overview.
Parts are available. My recommendation is A-1 Bicycles on Manchester. Ray Jr and crew know the older stuff well. |
Great bike. Easy to repair and find parts.

Don't get too excited. Yours is not one of the very desireable iterations.

Those are nice bikes. Not worth the big bucks some of the Record aces are but if it fits you and you like the color, ride.
All the parts you need can be had at the LBS. They can install the spoke for you if you aren't inclined or you could just hunt down a set of alloy wheels. |
In case you're interested, that's an exact match to the 1978 catalog pic. The TDF sticker throws me off a little because my 78 Grand Prix doesn't have one. Otherwise, you've got a 78 model. Thats a great bike to have fun with. It's not extremely valuable, but still a good bike to ride. It looks like its in good condition. To be original, it should have alloy drop bars and turkey wing style brake levers.
Enjoy it. |
Great!! It rides like a champ and if it's not too expensive to repair, I'll keep it. Thanks for info!
