Vintage Miele Help
Hi all.
I finally got tired of being curious about my Miele and signed up for this forum. I thought if I could find help anywhere, it would likely be here. I bought a Miele road bike off Craigslist from a gentleman who said it was an '87 model. It had a full Super Record group and a sticker at the top of the seat tube that was slightly deteriorated but read something like "...Garantita by Rossin in Italy". The bike is a beautiful orange color and although I can't remember what the sticker on the back rim read (it was stolen along with the original Campy freewheel ) the front rim has red green and yellow rings around the valve hole that says "Made in Europe". I took the bike in for an adjustment and the mechanic was quite complimentary and commented that he would not be surprised if the bike had been built my Jim Miele himself. Sadly, the paint has taken a few years of abuse and I'm going to have to get it redone. Before the original gets sandblasted off, I was just curious what I could learn about the bike. Thanks in advance! Here's a link to a photo from the original CL posting: hudsonhayden.com/miele.JPG |

Wow. I must be missing something because WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU REPAINT THAT? Looks great to me! More photos more photos more photos!!! |
I'd imagine the Mechanic was quite complimentary, that is a thing of beauty!
I agree with Maddox, keep that sweet paintjob :thumb: |
I promise to you that you will regret it if you repaint that frame. For many many reasons...
|
Just noticed the frame is dated almost 2 years ago. Curious...
OP, come back with more pics so we don't begin to think you're a troll of some sort. ;) |

Yes, yes. So what I've gathered is that no one thinks I should repaint the bike. I must admit, if it still looked this good I wouldn't dream of it. But as I mentioned, these past few years of commuting have not been kind to the paint job. I guess I'll see how it looks after I get it all cleaned up.
...and Maddox that's the photo from the original CL posting, from, wow 2 years ago. How time flies. I'll post more photos once I get her cleaned up. This was all spurred by my finally finding a pair of beautiful tubulars with Campy record hubs for a completely reasonable price today. So the next week or so will be devoted to restoration. Does anyone know anything about these late 80's Miele frames though? I heard Miele was building in Canada then, but the frame says Italy. Any ideas about Rossin's involvement? Tubing? Thanks all! |
Protect the finish and the decals and you will be happy you did. If clearcoat is lacking there are always ways to improve it. And don't be stingy on the photos.
Oh, and I think this rivals one or two 3Rensho frames for being my favorite orange paint/decal job ever. |
