Bianchi prototype

Hello,
nice to meet you all!
I am typing from Italy!
I have a dilemma: I recently bought a bike which has got a logo Bianchi on the pedals.
It is very particular and the seller told me that her dad was a close friend of Mr. Bianchi and, in the late 50s, he just gave him this bike.
I will post some photos soon.
It has got a splitted handlebar: yes, the handlebar is made of 2 separate bars.
There i a logo which looks like a NASA logo, but with inside written 2000.
Aren't you courious guys? :-))

:D

It is a folding bike, but so anusual that it captured my attention and I end up buying it.
Anyway, we just need the pictures now....I will, tomorrow!

Golly ! - Wasn't this part of Italy's exhibit at the '64 Worlds' Fair in New York? You have to LOVE that headbadge! Anyway, this would be an interesting addition to any bicycle museum today, spacematic.

Fantastic find! Welcome to C&V. If you were in the US I could recommend some products to help restore the finish on the paint. I believe it would come back to nearly new. It deserves a nice restoration.

I found this Duemila 2000, which looks to be your bike. My guess is at some point the crankset was changed for the Bianchi. The website says it is late 60's and includes this advertisement. I don't think your bike is a Bianchi, but it is very nice.

So...what you mean by that?

Amani576 06-05-10 10:29 AM

"Sick" = "Awesome", or "cool" in American slang.
And yes, it is very awesome.

FWIW, "Duemila" is Italian for "2000"

Hi Spacematic, welcome to the C&V Forum!

Your folding bike is fascinating, very different from the usual classic Italian steel that graces these pages - and all the more interesting. A (possibly) Bianchi - made 2000 or Duemila folding bike built as a prototype in the 1950's? That pre-dates Alex Moulton's famous design by a few years. It not only folds, but adapts to suit a wide range of riders. Bellissimo!
