How Much Do You Ride and How Much is on a C&V Bike?
I currently do about 3 club rides each week. I was thinking about how much of this is on a C&V bike. I'm a C&V bike collector, but I ride a decent amount, frequently on newer bikes.
I ride about 350-400 miles a month currently and that will increase as summer approaches. About 10% of that is on vintage bikes, (soon a classic, but not vintage, may rejoin the group). But right now it's only about 40 miles a month on C&V. So how much do you ride and how much of your riding is on a vintage or classic bike? |
I ride to my exercise class 3 times a week and usually a club ride or with my wife on the weekends. We do some events too. All I have are old, Nuovo Record bikes, so that's all I ever ride!

I do about 5000 miles a year. The club rides tend to get competitive, so I almost always ride a modern bike. When riding solo, I ride a vintage bike more often. It's probably 90%-95% on a modern bike. That being said, I almost never spend time on the road biking forum. I always hang out here!!!

For the last two calendar years I rode about 13000 miles, all of it on my '89 Trek. 2600 miles this year on the same bike.

I've never calculated mileage, but I spend all of my time on C&V now.
I moved back to Illinois in June 2009 and didn't bother unpacking my modern bike until last Friday. Before I moved, I probably spent about 90% of my time on the C&V bikes. The modern one will be sold soon. |
I ride around 3000 miles a year and almost all of that is on vintage steel. In fact, I'm going to be selling my newest road bike with brifters to get a decent mountain bike so it'll be 100% vintage steel.
|
Khatfull will be along soon to say that he's getting rid of his Cannondale so he can be 100% on a C&V bike!
Me? I ride probably 25% on a vintage bike, 25% on a classic bike and 50% on my modern beer-can bikes. :) -Collin- |
I ride about 3500/year.
It gives me a lot of pleasure to look at my two 22-23lb vintage steel bikes but I put 100% of my miles on my 17lb 1998 Litespeed. It just rides better |
Don't know. It's between 5 and 10 thousand a year, over 100 miles a week, but I don't know to any exact degree because I don't own a single computer or odometer, and never will. I'll never keep anal track of anything like that ever again. I played sports long enough to never want to do that ever again.
Almost all of it is on bikes older than 25 years. |
I sold my car 4 years ago, and am on CV 24/7, plus I do short tours as often as I can, and 20-mile training rides a couple times a week. I ride about 3-4K, not counting touring.

I have recently "upgraded" my stable to all C & V bikes.
I have been getting more and more into serious bike riding, and I've rode about forty miles every day this week (except today, it was really crappy out). Most of my riding is on my 1996 Bianchi Nyala mountian bike, and sometimes I take my 1980 Schwinn Voyaguer out for a fast-paced ride. I used to do most of my riding on an Aluminum Schwinn Hybrid, and after I broke the frame, I migrated all the components over to a free Bianchi frame, and bought a sweet used wheelset, and had the perfect MTB for me. |
I typically ride between 50 and a 100 miles a week. 100% of it on C & V bikes.

About 1500 miles a year, all on C&V.

50-100 a week. In the last month, 100% on C&V. I'd say it'll be 90% C&V because sometimes, you have to give in to carbon madness. One weekend a month, I go long solo, minimum 3 hours.
Like poguemahone, I don't have a cyclo. Maybe never will. Didn't wear a watch to run 5k's, 10k's, either; the guys at the end all seemed to have that covered. |

But I estimate about 50 miles of utility type riding a week. Then probably about 50-100 of recreational/fitness riding a week. More in the summer, less in the winter., but that is probably the average. I haven't bought a new road bike since the early 90's, so I guess mine is all C&V. However, I have been thinking about getting one of the full bore carbon deals, 11 speeds and all, just for the yucks, although then I won't have any excuses about getting passed. |
150+ miles per week, all on 1985 or older. ok, sometimes i ride my 1992 steel marin atb/mtb but that doesn't count ;)

(Shameless plug opportunity) http://home.comcast.net/~khatfull/im...tiaradone1.jpg Work has really gotten in the way of riding lately (travel and late nights) but I tend to get 100 miles a week in minimum and I try to do a 60+ mile ride on the weekend, solo or otherwise. The Tiara carried me 69.2 miles in 3:56 on the clock (3:42 moving time) Saturday before last...and it performed admirably. |
If my hybrid sells my newest bike will be an '88 Kuwahara and everything will be steel.
|
I am pleasantly surprised to see how many of the C&Vers put on substantial miles.
I envisioned most of the C&Vers as putting in tons of time acquiring and restoring and not much time riding |
I haven't been riding long enough to calculate a years worth of miles but, I'm riding about 90-120 weekly and the newest bike I own is my 88 Trek 1200 so its all on a "classic".
|
I can't afford a new bike.
|
I am currently commuting over 500 miles a week in my car, so it is hard to squeeze in much riding time during the week but I'm getting in around 50 miles a week on one or the other of my C&V bikes.
