fuji del rey for randonee?

hello all,
I'm new to the forum, and I'm looking for some advice. I rode a 400k brevet a couple of weeks ago and I had a great time except my aluminum cross rig was less than comfy by the end. I picked up an '85 fuji del rey with the intention of rebuilding the frame w/ modern, light components.
my question is, is this a decent frame for randonee style riding? I don't carry much so I'm not worried about cargo capacity.
Or, would I be better off waiting for a different frame to show up? there are a decent amt of vintage bikes in my area, slightly overpriced but available and i'm willing to shop.
thanks
jim

I think that the Fuji Del Rey would be a good choice. I had one - good quality construction, reasonably light with the valite quad butted tubing and a nice lively, springy ride. Brazeons for fenders and ample clearance for fenders. Certainly, you could do much worse.

What was uncomfortable about the CX bike on that ride? Honestly, I've never ridden a 400K (my max is an imperial century), but I'd imagine anyone would be sore after that. What size tires are you running on your CX bike? The fastest way to comfort is fatter tires and lower air pressure. I think your CX bike probably has far more clearance than most vintage frames. The next thing would be adjusting your fit and getting your controls comfy (saddle, saddle height, bar shape, bar position, bar height). The long distance forum would be a good place to ask.

my cx bike was too aggressive mostly i think. I could re-fit it but i have aspirations of racing cross this fall and I don't want to make it less functional for that. thanks for the replies.
