A tale of two bottom brackets.

Back at the Coral Ridge bike show in March, I had the good fortune of stumbling upon an NOS set of Tange bottom bracket cups from the '80s. That's lucky enough as it is, but they were Swiss thread, no less.

Fast forward to June, and I'm sifting through the bins at the LBS. What should I find but another set of NOS Tange cups - with French threading.

What are the odds? I mean, it's already a bit difficult to find a set of NOS French cups in the first place, and finding NOS Swiss cups just doesn't happen. But to find both of a single model type (Tange JL-401), in a row?

Heck, I went looking for Italian cups!

FYI - an important tip to anyone who finds these loose - the fixed Swiss and French cups do not differ in their markings - they're both "35xP1" - the differing thread direction is not marked.

Just put them up on Velobase:

Dang - where were these 5 months ago, when I was ripping through Shimano UNs to pair one with the swiss Phil cups I got - made a ShimWoodo BB for my unfortunately-threaded 1980 UO-10

Rivendell carries Specialized steel spindles that should work with these for cheeeep.

Since these are pretty much standard thick cup, they'd probably work with a Campagnolo spindle. If not, a Shimano or Sugino spindle should be a fine fit.

Trick is, finding something to fit them to ;) - I know the Swiss cups are already destined for a Peugeot PSV-10...whenever one finally pops up.
