They used to boil it to make it cure better rather than remaining a little tacky nearly forever. Now, there are "heavy metal" additives which promote curing. So "Boiled" in linseed parlance now just means it is treated so as to cure/dry better than raw linseed oil.

I've been waiting for the right single speed town bike or porteur to land at my doorstep for this crankset. They're 165's with a single 49 tooth and a 52 bash ring mounted on a double adapteur. I have another ring but it's a 51 and I don't think that's a useful combo for me...or anyone for that matter.

This one has the benefit of a spider but I don't know if it's whippy or not...I haven't had the pleasure of riding it yet. :)

Thanks, But I already have the arms and chainrings polished,and was hoping some one had a sorce for bolts ( I think I found some searching the net) the bolts are to pitted to polish. I have a commercial buffing set up left over from my motorcycle restoration business which I use for the really bad stuff and I use Mothers paste aluminum polish for everything else then wax. I will pick some linseed oil up and try it out as I keep hearing about it so I will give it a try, I will polish steel and then clear coat it most of the time.

As long as we're talking TA chainrings, I've been looking for a 38-40T three pin ring for years.

Now I've hit a snag.

I don't have the double chainring bolts and harris cyclery wont have more til mid August. The guy on ebay I got the chainrings from is out of stock on the bolts too. I've got the bolts that attach the big ring to the crank, I need the 6 chainring bolts that attach the small ring to the big ring.

I've got other chainring bolts sitting around....like a set off a sugino maxy crankset. They've even got spacers....any chance that would work?

I don't mind just getting a set of bolts that will do the job, brand doesn't matter as long as it fits....does somthing like that exist?
Then I can think about finding the correct TA ones later...I just don't wanna wait til mid-August to use these cranks.

turns out I found em.

The guy I got the chainrings from, renehersestore.com had the bolts but just didn't have them up on his site. Quick phone call and I'm all set....Got the foil decals on the way too.
also the dude from that store was very nice, super helpful and shipped my chainrings really quickly. Prices aren't the rock bottom cheapest but he's got a good selection and the customer service is great from my little experience with them.

VO has them as well. I wish I'd know about reneherse having them as I would have bought mine from him as I bought my rings from him as well. I could have saved on shipping costs.

VO only has the bolts for triples. Harris has those too....

The guy at reneherse said that the triple bolt sets sell more than the doubles so there isn't as much stock of the double bolts and apparently TA charges a good deal more for the double bolts for whatever reason (most likely because they can)

Those are some lovely bikes they build over there at that site....expensive as all get out and with a 28 month waiting list....but absolutely beautiful.
