Inexpensive vintage-looking saddle bag?
I know saddle bags have been discussed plenty of times before, and I've been reading all the threads about them this morning. But I'm not finding exactly what I want.
I have a about $100 that I want to spend on a saddle and a saddle bag. I will be spending $65 on the saddle, so that leaves me $35.
Is there any reasonably vintage looking saddle bag that would hold a pair of pants, shirt, cell phone, wallet and some tools for around $35? Or am I insane for trying to find one that cheap?

Do a Google search for "out your back door saddle bag". I've been using one for about a year. I like it. I think I paid $45 shipped with the saddle mounting option. It works well as a saddle bag or handlebar bag.

Did the same thing when I tried to go there in google chrome. Probably one of their advertisers that's causing it.
Bag sounds promising though. now to find some pictures of it.

Acorn bags will be on sale tomorrow from 9 am to 9:02 am Pacific time. The small bag goes for $50, which is a little over what you want to pay. I am not 100% sure you can get a pair of pants and a shirt in a small bag. You definitely can't if it is a pair of jeans. The mid size bag would definitely meet your requirements, but it goes for $85. I do highly recommend these bags, if you are lucky enough to get your order in.

The OYBD site worked fine for me in Firefox on a Mac.
Thanks for the heads up about Acorn! I never remember!

Since I run linux, I decided to give it a go. Yes, I got a google "safe browsing" warning -- twice -- and clicked through it both times. I was then informed that my computer was infected and that an "automatic scan" was starting. This of course "found" all sorts of malware and presented a very official looking Windows-control-panel type screen listing all the malware it "found:"

Of course, since I'm running linux, the whole "scan" was a crock of you-know-what -- my linux machine doesn't even *HAVE* a C: drive or a "System Folders" where these purported malware items were found. Trying to move the pop-up window triggered an automatic download of a file called "packupdate107_2129.exe" which of course does absolutely nothing in linux. I suspect that with Windows, "packupdate107_2129.exe" would either automatically run itself or prompt the user to start, at which point the actual malware/spyware/whatever would be installed on your computer. I don't have any antivirus software with which to scan it, but a quick google search seems to confirm my suspicion: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...3001240AAT4x4S

I was at work originally, so I just waited until I got home where I run linux. Got the same pop up.
Back on topic. The bag looks pretty versatile and useful but I don't like the look very much. The other pannier/saddle bag he sells looks great but is a little expensive. I'm thinking about getting the swiss bag he uses for about $25 and modifying it myself.

This may be your lucky day -- check out https://www.minnehahabags.com/2009/10...tly-blemished/ Minnehaha's bags have the look and they work well. Even their small bag might work if you don't mind lashing stuff to the outside, but this deal on the medium is very good (they usually run $70).

Restoration Hardware was selling those super cheap, but they're no more...

That minnehaha bag is nice, but still a little more than I want to spend. I click on the link to buy that blemished bag and it says item can't be found though.
There are lots of cool vintage looking bags with all the military surplus stuff, but the designs usually aren't ideal for attaching to a bike. Most seem hang too low.

For $35? Nope at that size. Unless you are handy and make it yourself. Scout thrift stores for an appropriate size, material and shape woman's purse, get some leather straps and buckles from a leather supply store to attach to the saddle and you can have one with an about $10-15 investment, if you can make it yourself...

Yeah, that's why I'm thinking about ordering an ammo bag or something and doing the strap/buckle thing on my own. I'm not sure we have a leather supply store around here. What other kinds of stores would have that stuff?
Also, if I were to go that route, would I have to do any sewing or anything? Or would making some slits in the bag and looping the straps through those be sufficient?

The Carradice Barley or Pendle is $46 from Wiggle...Order (2) and sell one or get a buddy to order one with you and you'll have free shipping. Probably out of stock but will usually ship out in a week or so...FWIW.
