Swear to God, it just fell off a truck.....

Friday afternoon I'm cruising home on the freeway, after visiting the LBS. The wife is sitting beside me, and we're engaged in a conversation about something-or-other. As I'm talking to her, I see a box coming up in the break-down lane, point, and say "is that a..." "yes it is", she replies. As I speed on by at 65mph, I plainly see a foam-wrapped top tube facing me out of the top of the open carton.

What's a boy to do?

Well...... you know the answer to that - hit the next off ramp, turn around, make another pass, and snag it if I can. So that's what I did.

The bad news is that it was just a beach cruiser, The good news is that, other than a scrape on the stem and a couple of dings on the chain guard, it survived the high speed ejection without damage.

The box was shot, but the bike was packed well. I assembled it, and for the last few nights rode alongside the wife as she walked the dog. I haven't been on a bike like this since I was a kid, and it was fun. I didn't get anywhere fast, but I'm thinking that's the point with one of these.

Turns out the shipping label on the box identifies the shipper, so I'm going to try and see if I can't get the bike into the rightful owner's hands.

But in the meantime here are a few pics for you to enjoy:

I could see this becoming a movie. the story of one man's goal to get a bike back to its owner.

do you know if it fell off a shipping truck?

All I know is that I found it on the freeway, and it presumably hadn't been there long. Also - I know the vendor, which has a web presence.

Odd thing is the ship date on the label is "21APR09".

Probably sat in the store a year or so, then someone bought it and it fell out on the way home.

It's a Cadillac!

Track ends. It must be a fast Cadillac!

You know who it belongs to--- GM Government Motors. Must be part of the economic stimulus plan: "Build bikes and toss them on the highway. Deduce that this portion of the highway is too rough, causing the bike to bounce out of a truck. Therefore the entire road is repaved."

Makes sense to me.

Finally - I get some benefit from the "stimulus" program.

I called the bike company that sold the bike, and the phone tree shunted me off to leave a message. So far, no one has called me back.

As an aside, this bike sells for $199 with free delivery, so it's not a huge deal. But it's nice to putt around on when the wife walks the dog.

I would revisit that stretch of freeway, just in case that's the spot where the universe ejects its unattached bikes.

Could that be considered "dumping" of imports? I mean literally, like they can't sell them so they push them off of moving trucks?

Heh - I was hoping for a high-zoot CF bike when I made the second pass to pick it up. Oh, well... this will make returning it much easier.

Listen - I don't like the movie in the first place. Don't bring up one of the (many) worst parts in the film.

For me, the only bit worthwhile was the two seconds we got to see the bike's rocket system in action.
