Best way to hide seat stay paint damage on Sarroni red Colnago?
Greetings all!
I have an old "cheap" Colnago with some bad paint damage on the set stays. It started as some large chips and scratches, but after some bad touch-up paint applications, it's a mess.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to best hide the damage? I was using some red electrical tape, but that didn't cut it. The ideal solution would be a Saroni red decal with some type of Colnago logo, but anything that is around 1x4 inches that isn't too tacky would be a big improvement. Ideas?
Thanks

i would remove the touch up paint and see how it looks. maybe try it again with better color/technique.
you can also get some interesting matching foil stickers to wrap around the stays.
or you can repaint.

Hopefully you're not looking to hide and sell.
The previous suggestion seems reasonable. You can also check for decals on eBay.

No plans to sell, although after 4 years of lurking and 0 posts, I can understand your suspicion. Actually, I haven't ridden the bike in over a decade, but I saw the Tour of California earlier this year, and have been following the Tour de France on TV- so I'm getting fired up again!
Anyways, the bike is one of the mid 80's low-end models with Ofmega components, so it isn't worth all that much to begin with. I do like the color though :-)
I already took the touch-up paint off, and there are some large patches of bare metal. It looks like I sanded way too much when I tried to fix it a the first time.
I've dug deep on Ebay and Google, and I'm leaning towards some red reflective tape. It shouldn't look too bad in the day, and may be useful if I ride at night.
Thanks for the feedback.

Are you giving up entirely on touching up with paint? Maybe just needs a bit more practice.

Does it affect your performance? If not, I say just ride! Work on your speed and no one will be able to see it! I've ridden bikes with lots of big boo-boos. Who cares?

I would remove the touch up paint, wax it really well and just ride it. To me, an average touch up reminds me of a toupee. Everyone knows you are bald and don't want anyone to know. Go natural and show the world you don't care.

Well, I went to the drugstore and got some nail polish.
Before and after pics upcoming if you have a strong stomach. I really messed this up.

best thing about nail polish is that it comes off easy with a little nail polish remover (acetone). you can do over until you get something you like.

I put some red reflective tape from Wal-mart on mine. I was lucky enough that the tape matched the original paint extremely close. I used it on the top tube too. Can't even see it from a reasonably close distance, plus it helps me be seen at night.

The good thing is, I did start riding it Sunday. The 10-year old tires, not to mention being totally out of shape, kept me from doing more than a few miles, but it's a start. Picked up some tires at the LBS today, so at least I took care of that.
Thanks again to everyone.
