Me at my bike is a tall order (because I am usually behind the lens.) Here is the shadow of me on my bike (and its front wheel) going about 30:

that's the closest picture I have around (without digging) on a bike.

My avatar is me, so is this (over at Bethlehem Steel for a photoshoot on a down pouring day a couple of years ago before the place turned into a Casino; excuse the 8mm lens) :

The me + bike pic I posted earlier was so far away and hazy, so here's one of me bouldering at asheboro, nc a few years ago -

This evening I was messing around with my latest free pickup from the dump... a Woolworth/Huffy faux BMX racer. My kids love it.

The bike has a really high bottom bracket and saddle was dialled in just right for my 33 inch legs... did not raise the stem as I knew I would have smaller test riders and the design is such that you need a socket and extension to loosen the pinch bolt as it is secured from below.

It makes the stem seamless... this picture shows the stem better and this is another model of the (Arvon) Cygnet replica.

This one is a little truer to the original (and my favourite) as it is a fixed gear with faux wood wheels and laced skirt guard... they are designed to be practical bicycles and not just eye candy and are a wonderful ride.

I have to say it is pretty interesting to see what all you luddites and retro grouches look like... :)

Also, there is a better than average chance I will have a "new" bike for the ride. :innocent:

Sounds good. If we have a big group, I'd say that we should do the lakefront again. Impossible to get lost, and kind to riders of varying speeds and distances. If it's a smaller group (and we all want a similar speed/distance) we could do the North Shore (Barrettscv knows some good routes). We could do lunch at Moody's again (can bring your bikes into the enclosed patio ), or even throw something on the grill in my back yard. Let's start a separate thread....

Here is a shot of the whole crew.. left to right:
My son Eddie the Navy officer, Tabbie my darling Granddaughter and her mom Jessie(my daughter) then my best friend and wife of 27+ years Debbie. That's my OU gymnast son David next and my fat butt in the front... Rounding out the bunch is Blue the Aussie, Lacey the taco dog and Mr. Zuess the Jack Russell AKA Terrierist #1
Probably more info than you want but where I go do they .... it's a family thing:thumb:

Jeez now looking at that pic I better start doing more riding and less wrenching:cry:
But first hand me that beer would ya?

Soonerbills - what a nice family portrait!

I revise my request - whatever pictures float your boat, please feel free! I mean, it's a bike forum, but we all have other bits and pieces that make up our lives, right? Right!

Great photos by all - I am really glad so many familiar names now have faces to go with them. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of this thread. I'll have to (regrettably) keep you guys in suspense for a little while, until I can find my camera cable. I just moved into a new place and can't figure out which box it's in...

When I read postings - especially ones by the regular contributors - I always get an image in my mind what they look like. Sorta like when I read a book: I mentally picture the characters, you know?

Characters...now that describes quite a lot of us here on the Forums!

Anyhow, let's see you guys and gals post some pics of you with your bike(s)! Working on them, riding on them - or just standing there looking proud/happy/confused/goofy/whatever!

A little story behind the pics is always welcomed.

First I am a newbie.

I shoot pistols in NRA 2700 point competition, and I raodrace motorcycles in WERA & CCS.

If went to a shooting forum, and posted a picture of where I went clean (perfect score)in 25 yd rapid fire and showed a picture of me showing peeps the clean target and my 1911 is pointed at the people I am showing the target to, I would get replies, and rightfully so, that I gota pistol pointed at people. My response would be, the pistol ain't loaded?

Also, in WERA motorcycle roadracing, I post a picture of me lapping the track sans helmet, I would get replies of where is my lid? My response would be, that is a practice lap?

What kind of message do we send to others?

Where is it when the truth is taboo?

Picture me and my wife on our bikes. I am 69 years old, I guess that makes me a little cranky! :)

I just saw the thread for the first time, and didn't read any others, and I gave my honest comment!

Am I supposed to read the replies too. I just gave my reply to the OP.

You still want me to delete my post, it was just my HONEST OPINION**********

stringbreaker 07-11-10 10:16 AM

BBM you look like you could kick everyone A$$ on the road, glad we are on good terms. :)

No, we're glad to have you here. We just stay away from the helmet issue; it has a history of getting really out of hand, and I was one of the guilty parties, though I thought it was kind of funny.

Great pic, and welcome....Looks like a LeTour and I can see the top tube cable guides in front of that Brooks......

Thanks man  Don't mean to be cranky, but at 69 years old, being cranky is natural!! :) No, the wife is on a Schwinn Traveler that I picked up at a thrift store for $25, I am on a 78/79 Raleigh Competiton that my son gave me some 30 years ago.

Not so great picture taken about a year ago at Cabrillo National Monument, San Diego. Bike is the 72 P-15 with modern Campy drivetrain except for the early Shimano Barcons.

Believe it or not, I (or rather my bike) was recognized out there once by a rider who had posted in C and V. That really surprised me!

Old ride, bought by me in '72. New ride, bought by someone else in '73.

I didn't think I needed a helmet for a posed photo. I should be mowing the lawn.

You'll have to click on the thumbnails. I know, that's asking a lot.
