I can't find any photos of me from this year, but this one was taken last September at the finish of the Kearsarge Klassic, a dirt road randonnee in Southern NH. We had nice cool, cloudy weather all day until the final 5 miles. The skies opened up and we got SOAKED! It was a good thing, actually, because the final mile before the finish has a steep, sustained grade, and the cool rain was welcome. (I'm the one with the red jersey, next to my friends and ride companions Velouria (Lovely_Bicycle blogger) and Brian.

I think I'm going to stop a stranger on the street and ask him/her to shoot me. It's hard to get a shot of me on my bike.

I did the research awhile ago so I would be surprised if I've got it wrong. I think I was recall him winning the Altoona horseshoe curve race in mid 70's..
Here's this: sorry, no source at the moment!
There were 2nd and 3rd place women finishers in 1987-88, but there are no records that exist both in the Altoona Library or in the Offical Toona Archives. The print media of that time, didn't reveal who they might be. Sarah Costanzo and Kathy Steel were both members of the Altoona Bicycle Club, but there was no official team. Both women still ride and live in the Altoona area today.
Kathy Steel is the widow of Ken Steel, a local legendary recreational cyclist who won the first organized unsanctioned bike race in Altoona, the 1975 Horseshoe Curve Bicycle Race. He died in January 1987, working as a firefighter, when a building collapsed on him. Ken Steel was a guy who thought 150 miles was just a nice Saturday ride. When he was discharged from the Army, he cycled back home to Altoona from San Francisco rather than buy a bus ticket. When his seat broke 60 miles from home, he pedaled standing up rather than phone for a ride. Ken always chose the most mountainous route he could find riding in the Altoona area, which provides no shortage of mountainous terrain.

Here's me and another forum member taking some refreshment on a ride last Saturday. I'm in the foreground. The guy in the background, well, either you know him or you don't.

I'm sure not going to say who the guy in the background is. For a late summer picture, he sure looks pale and pasty.

this was a fun read. brought back lots of memories from the 1970's when i was riding around on my 1972 schwinn continental.... I love that bike and my son who just graduated college is using it in Indianapolis.
After refurbishing that bike, I got the bug to get back into biking. I now own a new Trek 7.3 fx,,,, Riding in the early morning is addictive.

I used that trike to move, twice. I hauled lumber, concrete block and cement, my wife and daughter, my mother-in-law, my dogs, and on and on. Shortly after my most recent move it was stolen in the night. My knees are grateful.

Aha, I found one. This is from July 2012. I am not riding my bike in this picture. This bike belongs to aixaix. It's an Olympia, a lovely Italian machine.

Hmm, it's similar to a shot taken of me about 30 years ago. This was an Atala Competizione, which I sold after owning it for a short time.

^ Tom, you made a comment some time back regarding the pic of you on the Atala - something about a mis-match of parts or suchlike. I guessed HF front hub and LF rear. Can you think what it was that you were thinking?

Cougar country.
Beautifull fall day in Calgary. Pre L'Eroica '13 training ride. Felt obliged to have photo of my '84 Terry Dolan Cougar in front of subdivision sign. Not taking the Cougar to Italy. Rather, taking '72 MKM Metcalfe - doesn't seem quite right as it is not Italian but fullfills an obligation to original owner to ride it in L'Eroica. Please forgive WC stripes on jersey. No one will ever mistake me for WC but I like the jersey.

Heh. It'd be nice if these thighs made me a strong rider. Oh well.
