well, we have a tiny mazda3 5-door hatchback. we manage to transport our family of four and four bikes, with luggage. we have a yakima roof rack with 2 bike attachments and a huge cargo platform, and a thule box-hitch bike rack that holds up to 4 bikes. and we get 30mpg to boot...
*Anton and I first "met" over at the ElantraClub forum several years ago.
At the end of the week we'll head out on vacation and I'll have the rack on the back of my wife's car:

I've had an '03 Impreza WRX wagon for the last 5 years and its served me very well. With the seats down It will hold a full size bike with the front tire still on, and in the case of Trexlertown last fall it held a complete bike, a frameset and a spare wheelset.
I just took delivery on a Mini Clubman on Monday afternoon....first test, put a bike in the back. It goes, but the front wheel has to come off.
When it comes to versatility its hard to beat a Subaru.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to mount 3 bikes in my F150 without a bunch of structure that I would have to remove to use the truck for regular hauling.
Basically a thing like a bike rack that I can set in the bed and stand the bikes into.
Right now I just pile them in and bungee them as best I can.
Oh, we had a '67 Camp-mobile in '77, we camped all over Texas, it was great.

My brother had a 72 40. It was awesome.
I just joined the fold with this...
It's a work in progress.
