55 on the 3rd with my 85' P8, that's a solid 80, and then back again the next day.
Not bad running single speed, but god damn do I need a new seat!

Aemmer 07-12-10 10:22 PM

With this math, I have done at least one century a year on my Ciocc since new in 86.

No, no. You have to convert ISO years into metric years. Then it'd be 100km+120.96 years= ...uh, maybe I should have started from the other direction with my conversion. I also may have missed a leap day. :)

robatsu 07-13-10 12:42 AM

I did a century on my 1990 Tommasini (100 + 20) = 120. Last year, I did a century on my 1981 Fuji Grand Tourer (100 + 28) = 128. More 70/80 mile Sunday rambles than I can recall on 30+ year old bikes the past few years.

Pompiere 07-14-10 04:56 AM

In June I did an MS150 on my 1989 Club Fuji. I was going to ride my 1984 Miyata 310, but I wasn't sure that I would be able to keep up with my friend's Lemond.

roccobike 07-14-10 05:59 AM

The closest I've come on a vintage ride is 51 on the 86 Nishiki Prestige last year on the second day of the MS 150. I ride the CF bike on Saturday with the club, then go on my own with the Nishiki on day 2.

billew 07-14-10 08:40 AM

I rode fifty on my 1954 Raleigh Sports. At 48 Lbs.with full chaincase and dynohub and 50years old. Thats 103 not including age and weight factors.http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...hstonewall.jpg

merlinextraligh 07-14-10 09:20 AM

103 miles on a 1977 Paramount P14 track bike.

Do I get extra credit for the fixed gear?

Road Fan 07-14-10 10:01 AM

And then the concept of an age ride is distance is at least equal to age of bike + age of rider? So we could have a C&V 50+ century challenge?

Last Saturday was my first Metric. 65 miles ridden, plus 30 years bike frame age, plus 57 years rider age - hmmm that was a 152 mile ride, 235 km! And in only 5 1/2 hours saddle time!

I am awesome, a grey monster! Now where's that young wuss, Lance?

Ex Pres 07-14-10 12:12 PM

My last longer ride on the '78 Raleigh Pro was about 70 miles, so that's 102. If we add in the 51 y/o rider per RF, you get 153 :)

See post #3. 119+51 = 170. All I have to say is - wait until Friday. Should be a good day to spend on the Hetchins :D

126 miles + 28 yr old bike = 154.

bonus for friction shifting?

Nah. Comes with the territory.

I'd give a bonus for riding with broken bones though.

Sunrise Century in May on my '89 Tommasini. 21 bike years + 102 miles + 53 age years = 176, but I probably get a deduction for modern drivetrain.

bigbossman 07-15-10 12:46 AM

A sticky? Really?

king*stink 07-15-10 01:53 AM

I ride rode my 81 miyata 40 miles a day for the last 7 work days. So 29+40=69 for me. The 5 days before the last 7 was on my 73 super course. So 37+40=77. A few weekends ago I did 80 miles on the 81 miyata. That's 110.
I'm taking an 83 pro miyata out this weekend for a long ride.

I have now extended the challenge to my carbon cowboy compadres.
The extra miles shouldn't hurt them. It's only fair, them being toys and all.

I've done two full centuries, 100 miles, on a 1988 Ironman, so I guess that's 122.

I've done one 76-miler on a 1985 Cinelli Centurion, so that's 101, and I'll take it.

My next long ride will be 48 miles with ice cream at every stop. I'm really looking forward to it.
I'd do the metric, but with ice cream, you have to savor the moment.

Cups and Cones, July 24, Cary NC...

rccardr 07-15-10 11:25 AM

OK, I'll play: 150 miles at 24 HoB on my '87 Cannondale ST. And I'm 59. SO...150 + 23 + 59 = 232.

Assuming there are no extra points for aluminum.

iab 07-15-10 05:48 PM

I typically ride 30-60 miles every Sunday on a 1957(?) Cinelli.

83-113.

In my book yes.

Rocket-Sauce 07-16-10 07:45 AM

126 miles on a 2010 Pinarello -which *will* be C & V in ~20 years. So
126 + -20 = 106
:o :innocent: :p

Bonus points for broken bones? At about mile 10, I fell off while trying to show a new rider how to properly click in/out of clipless pedals. Broke a rib and severely sprained my wrist. Bike is OK though.

My wife did the same ride on her 1990 RB-1 so
126 + 20 = 146.

dudeona3V 07-16-10 10:21 AM

For several years the impetus for adding to the collection was to do the Santa Fe Century on a different vintage ride each year, so I have several that would qualify. I do think we should grant huge kudos for heavyweights (like the Raleigh Sports above); perhaps a Clydesdale category for bikes over 30 lbs. I could probably grunt out 59 flat miles on my '69 DL-1, but it might be the last thing I do.
