Valley Forge, PA to Philadelphia, PA and back - Saturday September 18th

Hi,
Anyone interested in a C&V ride Saturday September 18th? I'm offering to lead such a ride. Basically, we'd meet in Phoenixville, PA and jump on a trail to Philadelphia. Hit a pub next to the river, get a few drinks and/or food, then come back.

It's around 44 miles round trip.

The ride would be 80% on a rail trail (flat) - with some hills and safe big city riding in the middle. Nothing too extreme. The middle of the ride geographically would be boat house row/Art Museum area. It's a nice mix of paved woods/city riding and all of is it technically on a trail.
If interested post here so I can get an idea of who/how many to expect and I'll send out exact time and place info later. The 18th is my first choice but if there is an overwhelming desire for another date a little later that would work too.

Any interest?

Depending on the time, possibly. I have a meeting with a travel agent in Berlin NJ at noon. Just a heads up...the Mnayaunk section of the trail is lose gravel and you'll want 28c tires. I've done it on 19s and 23s, but it's annoying.

yeah unfortunately we wouldnt be back by noon, sorry :(. I prefer to keep a "look at things and shoot the poop" pace on group rides.

That part you're talking about is the canal path. That's different, although it's an alternative if you don't want to ride on the road for a mile through Manayunk until the trail picks up again on Kelly drive. Like you said it is doable, just not necessary if you don't want to ride it.

Sounds fun. I'll definitely be there if the stars are aligned.

The one thing I;d worry about is keeping people together who maybe aren't familiar with the diversion around the toe path...it can be confusing to take that route if you aren't familiar with it. Hell...I still ask for directions when I use it and I;ve taken it a dozen times.

Really? Maybe we're thinking of somewhere different, but the diversion is a marked bike path that takes you up through roxbury over the hill and then down into the yunk.

But that's a good point. I'd assumed it would be 5-10 of us in which case we'd all stay together. There is a nice regrouping point where the paved trail ends and we could ride together to Manayunk brew Pub :)

Either way I'm sure we'll be fine.

Maybe it's just me, but I sometimes get thrown by that...the whole looping past the bridge before you hit those nasty hills near Levering still confuses me. I don't recall it being marked either.

I haven't been in that area in about 25 years and would love to do the ride. I've put it on the calendar, now it's all up to my wife's health and what kind of support I can get.

That sounds pretty sweet. I'll mark it on the calendar and hope my semester hasn't kicked my a55 to hard at that point.

I'm in, but I'll need a reminder.

I would suggest that we set some "pick up points" - for instance, we meet in PHV but we could also pick people up in Oaks (at the split-off near the Pawlings Road parking lot), Betzwood, Conshohocken, etc., where there's better parking.

Pete

If you folks are doing this later in the day, I'd LOVE to be part of it. I expect to be indisposed until 2-3.

I'd love to join in...sounds like a good time...(especially the beer part in the middle...:)
