Son of a...

I just picked up a new set of brakes for my Fuji (nothing special - no-name 39-45mm dual pivots). After messing with threading new brake cables, swapping on new derailers, and drilling out the mounts for recessed nuts, I find that the rear brake is too short. Bastards. So now I have to take my handy dandy circular file, hog out the bottom 2-3mm and pray that it's long enough. bah.

What kind of Fuji are you drilling and cutting into?

It's your bike to drill into to, but I didn't want to so I bought these. Plenty of reach.

Don't worry - it's a 1990 Fuji Palisade with the Featherlite Ishiwata tubing, a rather serious ding in the downtube, and more chips than paint. I had to drill out for the recessed nuts, but will be modifying the brake arms on the rear brake to get the reach I need - nothing too serious, and nothing that would be visible on the bike once the brakes are attached.

They're nice, but the problem with those is that there is TOO much reach. These brakes are literally 3mm too short - there's more than enough meat in the brake arms to cut out and lower the pads. Besides, it's going on the rear brake anyway. If it was the front, I'd worry, but not on the rear.

I see. The R538 is shorter and available in nutted form, but sounds like your brakes will work. Now just add some elbow grease!

:D If it wasn't for things like this, there'd be no fun in life! Ya gotta have a challenge here and there, otherwise it's no fun.
