Stem Quill Adapter

Has anyone out there used a stem quill adapter in order to put a threadless stem on an older bike?

If so, is it as simple as it looks? Any drawbacks? More importantly... is it sinful to put more modern stem and bars on a vintage bike? :o

Thanks in advance.....

I've used the V-O threadless stem adapter on a couple of my bikes, and really like them. They don't feel as flexy as quill stems, but still offer the ability to easily change bar height. You can also change stems much more easily than you can change a quill stem if you need more or less reach or a different angle.

Its easy as putting a quill stem in. Just grease it down and pop that sucker in.

I used one on my Varsity when the bars I wanted to use had too tight a bend to fit through a normal Quill. I needed a stem with a removable faceplate to make it work so the threadless conversion was my best option. Its worked out fine...and I've seen uglier.

Personally I just much prefer the look of a quill to a threadless stem.

Soma makes one called the High Rider. I have one, but haven't gotten around to putting the bike together that I bought it for.

Thanks, It's 7 speed indexed. Its been really reliable and accurate...although a little confusing if I forget to mention the levers are reversed.
