Input needed on a Trek....

A friend has loaned me a bike to ride and tinker on.
I sort of need to know the OEM specs on this model.
Kinda has some mixte lines, down low.

An older web page has been pretty helpful, but you guys know a lot.

1-Restoration? If so, I'd need specs.

2-Hot rod? How would it hurt the value? I know I can make it scalding.

3-Pitfalls?

Robbie,

Too cool. I've always wanted to try the OCLV Y bike. I have no expertise on the subject, but I have seen a couple for fairly low prices and I really don't think it has great collector value. So, make it burn!

I'm pretty sure he'd get disqualified for riding that. The geometry does not conform to UCI rules.

No offense to you or your friend intended, but I'd sell that atrocity.

Nope. Neither are most local road races or time trials. You have to get to a National Calendar races before UCI rules have much impact.

Apparently not. I'd rather ride a bike that did though.

I don't get the issue. Probably just preference. But I think they're awesome looking bikes and I'd love to have one.

No clue. I need a battery in my scale. I'm guessing 17 now, will be 16 when I ride it.

It's a beam bike, like a Soft Ride, so I won't be disqualified for the bike in a USAT event, ....

... with the gold Speedo, jail would be certain.

I don't think it's technically a beam bike because the "beam" doesn't flex like on the softride.

I'm feelin' it. The search is on for the appropriate attire, need to watch some more Reno 911.

I can see my wife getting into her car and leaving the triathlon now.....she doesn't appreciate my Primal Tarantula jersey and shorts, and something (like common sense) tells me she won't want to be in the same county as this outfit....wouldn't be the first time....

Maybe I should lose about 15 lbs first....one time where the camera may not be my friend....

Status:
Frame stripped, cleaned, waxed.
Components cleaned, lubed.
Wheels, tires, calipers, stem, bars, seat post, saddle swapped out.
Crankset removed, bb removal pending. Repl crankset on hand, need Octalink BB.
Re-assembly started. It's looking a lot better, much more OEM.
I'm sure it's lighter, a bit, and the repl wheelset has been repacked.

Photos pending.

Wow, Spacey.

There are at least a couple of people who think these machines are worth something...

1999 Trek Y Foil Frameset Great Cond 59cm No Reserve

TREK Y FOIL 56cm BARELY USED

Slap a Livestrong decal on it and I'll bet it will be worth its weight in gold.
