Removing Chainwheel from cottered crank on an Old Indian (Phillips)?
I'm cleaning up a 1951 Indian Princess (made by Phillips). I wanted to disassemble the crank so it would be easier to clean the rust off of the cranks and the chainwheel. I got the crank arms off, but now I can't see how to get the chain wheel off of the right crank arm. This is the first time I've looked at a bike of this type, so I don't know much about them.
Does anyone know if or how the chain wheel comes off the crank arm? Is it threaded, friction fit, or permanently welded?
Thanks

If it's like most English-style roadsters, the chain ring is permanently attached. I always dunk them in oxalic acid to de-rust, works great on parts like that.

I figure it's like any other run-of-the-mill british 3-speed of the period, in which case you're probably right.
