Sizing on a roadster
Hi all: I am very familiar with how to correctly fit myself to a "racer" (ie. anything with drop bars).....but is there a difference when sizing yourself for a more relaxed roadster? I'm thinking about the typical 3-speed runabout, especially a utility bike.
I assume that the same sort of fitting takes place, but I find the seat height needs to be higher than expected, and with "northroad" style bars the selection of stems is fairly limited.... Even Sheldon's recommendations seemed geared (no pun intended) to derailleur equipped bikes. Mark |
You will have to compromise...they only come in limited sizes. I ride a 64/65cm(25.5") road frame (old school). My Raleigh Superbe is a 23" my Raleigh Tourist is a 24". I also have a Raleigh Sports with a 21" frame. Long seat posts and stems are your friend. FWIW I am 6'-2" with long arms and legs. Get the one that is the closest to what you want/can ride and go from there.

My raleigh sports its a 23 inch and just right for me at 5'10. I have ridden a couple of 21 inch 3 speeds and they were acceptably comfortable but a little cramped. If it was all I could get I would ride a 21. It might be different for others but 23 inch is also my preferred road bike size.
