Iver Johnson

So, that thing is very near where I live. I'm just wondering what it is....

The guy seems to have a skewed view of value for something in that condition given his want of 4 wheelers and guns in trade.

Anyone wanna venture guesses on age and fixability (not a word, i know) of that thing?

Right pedal or crank arm looks bent. Tires might be hard to find. Chrome looks to be gone, as are the fenders....

Fun project, could come out nice, but for it to be 'worth it' you'd have to start at a pretty low price.

Eh, the 'worth it' factor is kind of a non-issue. It would give me an potentially enjoyable thing to do.

Really i guess i'm wondering about suggestions of what one would do with all the parts that appear to be in rather rough shape. Paint em? rechrome the chromed pieces? Try to get rid of the rust and then just protect those pieces. Paint is obviously shot and needs to be redone.

anyone wanna venture a guess on the size of it as well?

It's not going to be big enough for me.... but i'm wondering how close. (just a hair under 6'3" with more torso than legs. so sizing is a bit of a pain anyway)

I'd agree with rhm's comments. Pretty cool bike. I've been looking for a similar project. If it were me I'd try to restore it without painting it as I like the aged look of it.

Well, sounds like you already know it's going to be too small for you. To guess the size based only on the photos, not knowing the wheel size, and in the absence of tires, well... Assuming 26 x 2" balloon tires, it's a pretty small frame, like 21" or so. But this style of bike is made for a very upright riding position, where size is not so critical... so with a longer seat post you may be comfortable enough on it.

I called the guy, and as I feared he seems to have an unusually high value in mind for the bike. The origin of this value though... 10 years ago he called a schwinn store and they offered him $1000 for the bike, sight unseen. The guy definitely should've taken that offer as the ones i've seen sell in that shape have been in the 20-75 dollar range. Two other people have been after it; it sounds like I won't be getting it. So long as it doesn't end up hanging on a wall in a Cracker Barrel....

I've got an Iver Johnson in my collection!

In .32 cal, if I remember correctly!

Looks exactly like a mini 1911........

It's really a cool gun!

They looks like 28" wheels. He's lookin' for 4-wheelers and guns for a trade but it's only worth a case of Bud and a couple fishin' poles.

Hahaha! Oh boy, Stale corn bread!

seems to me that you're better off without this bike. Maybe the market for this kind of bike just exploded and there is a massive bubble due to American Pickers, but I really don't see the value.
