Puch Lezern

I am not very knowledgable when it comes to specialty bikes.
Saturday I found a Puch luzern at a garage sale. It is a 12 speed racing
style bike. 27" rims I think. I really don't know what I have.
Do you think you could help me?
Bike is black with gold striping.
Puch is on angle tube, with small "made in austria" sticker near crank.
"luzern" is on a small decal on the cross tube.
It says reynolds 531 on the seat tube.
It has a small U.S. consumer label at the bottom of the seat tube.
The company name is Steyr daimler Puch A.G. Austria.
Shimano E.A.hubs w/shimano close quick releases.
wheels are weinmann 16x622-700c made in Belgium.
Handlebars are Sakae custom road champions -taped
Brakes, brake levers, pedal arms, and derailers are shimano 600's.
Crank says shimano, and has 52 & 42 teeth aluminum gears.
pedals have Christophe toe clips with no straps.
Seat is Arialce jaguar- made in japan.
22" crank center to top of seat tube.
21" cross tube
33.5" angle tube.
32" ground to top of seat tube.
The bike is in great condition. It has a few scratches, but looks like it was
always taken care of. If you know anything about my find, or can tell me
where to look for info, I would appreciate your help.
If you want to send me a phone #, I'll call you & talk a little in person.
Thanks Dan Burns

Sounds like a nice bike. The 531 tubes and Shimano 600 components = good stuff. Let's see some pictures!

It sounds like a mid-level early 1980s model, which also might have sold under the Austro-Daimler marque. If your (English-language; Reynolds made French, but never German versions) 531 decal is printed diagonally and says something like "double-butted tubes, forks, and stays," then you have a full 531-thoroughbred. If the decal is printed horizontally and says something like "double-butted main tubes" or "3 tubes butted," you have a less-valuable mixed-tubeset frame, with plain carbon steel forks and stays. I have never believed that a full-531 or full-Columbus frame is significantly superior to a mixed-tube, main-triangle-only frame, such as my PKN-10 or my Bianchi, but there certainly is a big difference in the response of collectors' checkbooks!

If you sale it in ebay you will get up to 200$ If it is in good shape.

For general Info. Puch (sold in US with the name Austro Daimler) was an Bike ,Motorcycle an Car Manufacturing Company in Graz Austria. It was foundet in 1889 and produced bikes till 1988 after this time the production went to Bianci Italy. The high quality bikes with the name Ultima Everest Superleicht Vent Noir Starleicht are having all Reynolds 531 Frames and Campagnolo Record or Shimano crane(dura ace) or 600 parts.

Hello, I am trying to build one of these. Could you please send me the spec sheet you spoke of? I am specifically interested in the headset and BB dimensions.
thank you in advance!

I doubt you'll find the "specs" being as detailed as to the spindle width, but for example here's a link to one of the A-D catalogs that mark Bulgier hosts and has the original equipment for the 1981 Puch Luzern (and the A-D SLE below it), you can go to Bulgiers main page and see the other years he scans of for A-D catalogs (if '81 isn't yours), at least some of them show Puch models as well. Unfortunately the headset is one of the few things left off, but very likely it was a Shimano 600 to match the rest of the line.

Dear Max, the headset is an average 1 inch threat headset for forks with an 1 inch shaft.
Concerning the BB you have to measure the wide of the BB housing on the frame, if your measure 70 mm (Milimeter) you need an ITA BB, if you measure 68 mm you nee an BSA BB
