+1, they made good road bikes.

A friend of mine had a nice Marin Verona, orange, with Columbus tubing and 3x9 105 STI, very nice ride.

I built a Marin Portofino, aluminum, square tubing, and it rode very nice....much better after I put cables and a chain on it...

Hate to chime in too much, but a Marin Muir Woods is one versatile machine. One of the best all-arounds I've seen.

I rebuilt this steel framed Marin Portafino recently. She's my size and was a great ride. Since I had so many other nice bikes and needed the cash for more projects I sold her. I can see how some of us have dozens of bikes.

I found a 2009n Marin Portofino for 300 bucks on craigslist, itll be my first road bike so trying to be careful in what i choose. The owner has only rode it 15 miles or so, pretty much brand new, I do triathlons and building myself up for a half-ironman, is this bike a good bike to get?

Let me know what you think

Make sure there is nothing wrong with it. Check over the frame & forks, bottom bracket, wheels and brifters real close. That seems like a nice price if it is good as new.

Ok great, thanks for the advice cycleheimer, I am really excited and think I am going to purchase this bike. Do you have any opinions on Marin Road Bikes in general? Likes? Dislikes?

I think yes. I built my Portofino with a new Mirage group a couple of years ago when the dollar/euro thing was favorable, 3x9, with wheels, etc. I sold it to a guy who was about to do his first triathlon, and since then, he's done a half-ironman on it, also. I think it's a good choice for a half-IM because it's a road bike and face it, 56miles is a good place for a road bike, regardless of how "tri" you want to be.

Good frames. I found it to be a good ride, got it from a former pro, and he always had nice stuff to sell me.

Dude thanks so much, I definately made up my mind. Now, I also dont think I could go 56 miles sitting up on a bike, do you think I should put aero bars on them?

I have a late 90's Marin Sausalito hybrid that has been sat in the corner of the shed for a while, it's a lovely bike and I really should get it out again...

I had a Pine Mountain rigid and my wife had an Eldridge Grade front suspension. The Pine Mountain was up the scale a little from the Eldgridge Grade, but the Eldridge Grade was no slouch at all. These are nice bikes for sure.
