NAHBS 2012 - Sacto CA

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show 2012 will be in Sacramento, CA from Friday March 2 through Sunday March 4. That's about six weeks from now. https://2012.handmadebicycleshow.com/

So who's coming out? And is anyone intersted in a ride while here? Like, maybe, Sunday morning (weather permitting)? Probably a nice, pretty flat run on the American River bike path (approx 30 miles out to Folsom), turning back when we feel like it. Getting to the path from the Convention Center (where the show is) is no problem.

Speaking of weather, it could be 45 degrees with wind and rain, or it could be 80 degrees, clear, calm and sunny, or pretty much anything in between. Most likely, it will be in the 50s. Early March is still the NorCal rainy season, so rain is 50/50. So far, it has been a very dry winter, but that means absolutely nothing in terms of predicting what it will be like six weeks from now. Keep an eye on whatever on-line weather service you like. Or don't. See if I care.

My best guess is that last year's NorCal Austin contingent, meaning bigbossman, MarkoPolo and Scooper, will be there. I fully expect to be at the Show, which I admit is not much of a draw, but you have to take the bad with the good. And there are a bunch of other nice NorCal C&Vers and general BFers who I suspect will crawl out of the woodwork to attend. It should be a fun group.

Be warned - Sacramento is not Austin. In terms of nightlife, it may not even be Lubbock. Don't expect anything resembling the music scene you enjoyed last year. But then, that isn't what you're coming here for, is it?

Need a bike? Start begging now.

So, I repeat: Who's in?

Had fun last year.

I have family in San Antonio and Austin I visited.

Our bike club brought down a 26 foot truck with bicycles including one of mine.

I haven't decided this year yet, as there is so much going on around here with kids' sports.

It would be fun, but I'll have to wait and see.

Oh, for God's sake, man! Where are your priorities? Besides, the little ankle-biters need something to talk to their therapists about when they're 35.

The little ankle biters are bigger than me!

Well, the oldest is, that's for sure. Going on 6'2" and he's fifteen.

The "little" brother is already 5'8" and he's in 7th grade.

As for the therapist, my wife needs one to tolerate the three of us.

This is why imo you should never name your male child the same as your name (not that you did, just sayin'...). First, people will call him "Little Bob" and you "Big Bob" but then "Little Bob" grows to be bigger than "Big Bob" and it can get really confusing!

There will be little confusion here, as he is named after a sixth century Catholic church figure.

Me, not so much.

Not making it this year. Still saving to pay for the Kirk when it's ready, which will be just about the time of the show. Also have plans to go to Montana for Cino Heroica this year as well. Perhaps in another year or two.

I'll be there for the day on Saturday. I'm driving over early in the morning and back to S.F. late in the afternoon. A neighbor who rides a Serotta Colorado will be hitching a ride with me.

I'll be there too. I have a conference the next week in California, and with family there, it works out too perfectly! I'm taking Amtrak from San Jose or SF with my bike to get there on Saturday sometime. Not sure if it warrants Saturday AND Sunday or just Sunday.

My goal is to ride back to SF or berkeley following this route more or less, but split into two days:

I'll be on my 1983 Fuji del Rey.

I'd love to meet up with folks!

Shameless bump because I can't believe so few of you want to come out to California for the show.

C'mon, folks, we've had electricity and indoor plumbing out here for at least six or seven months. And most of the rattlesnakes and grizzly bears were cleared out of Sacramento weeks ago . . . .

It'd be fun to take the train up and back, I'm thinking. Anyone know the distance between the Amtrak station and conven center?... I assume Sacto hasn't discovered taxis yet...

Sorry, that's a hi-jack I guess.

It's only about 7 or 8 blocks. Walkable. Or you can catch a ride.

There are a few taxis, but they look for suits from the legislature.

Amtrak to Convention Center is from about 5th and H to 14th and J
on a regular alpha numeric grid system.....very walkable.

I will be here, because i live here and have volunteered to
work the show. For any of you whom I have offended on BF
over the past months and years, this would be the time to
try to kick my ass. I may set up a dunk tank at the Bike
Kitchen (coop) as a fund raiser.

Why would we need night life in Sacratomato? Everyone either
works for the State of California or is retired.

Also there's this, but they are pretty humble bicycles.

The Midtown Business Association in Sacramento have created a small scale bicycle share program for the Midtown Sacramento area.

The Midtown Business Assocation (MBA) is the Business Improvement District funded by the nearly 500 property owners between 16th Street and Interstate 80 / 29th Street (roughly) along J, K and L Streets. The MBA opened their first bicycle rental kiosk with 12 bicycles at 28th & J to start their modest pilot program. A second kiosk will open soon at 16th and I.
