Rossignol Bikes?
 

I didn't know Rossignol made bikes... I'm familiar with their Skis, but I figured that was it.

I was on my ride into work this morning (riding the Miyata 1000 today) and came up on a guy in his late 60's or early 70's riding a red and white bike with chrome Bocama Lugs. The name on the downtube was "Rossignol" I did a triple take on the name because I figured it was probably "Rossin" and i was just reading it wrong, but sure enough it was Rossignol and had a headbadge to match. All Campy components, and If I spied correctly it looked like a Cottered Campagnolo Crankset. Well it was cottered for sure but I do think it was campy...he even had some vintage clipless pedals going. Very cool to see a bike like that in my area, there's not a lot of vintage interested folks around here it seems.

I was just gonna keep on keeping on but I had to slow up and pace the guy and chat him up about the bike a little. He had a bit of an italian accent and said he bought it in Italy around 1970 (although I suspect the bike was more late-60's). Nice dude and it was a nice thing to see this morning.

Wish I could have snapped some pics but I wasn't about to ask the guy to pull over just for that. :innocent:

Probably Rossignoli, from Cicli Rossignoli of Milano. Been a working bike shop since the early '60s at least. You can Google them, the site is usually in Italian. I had one back in the late '60s.

Rossin and Rossignol (as in the skis) are both different.

I've been to the Milano shop, it's the oldest continuously in business shop in Milano. Every year they put
on a classic type show, I have a CD I need to upload somewhere from the 2007 show. They are known mostly
for city bikes, but do build MTB, racing and touring bikes as well.

Was the bike owner in Northern NJ by any chance? That is the exact same paint scheme and lettering that I saw.

I've been to milano before, Its too bad I didn't know about Rossignoli or I would have stopped in. NExt time!

nope, that was California.
The Rossignoli shop isn't too far from the Vigorelli off Corsa Sempione. I really want to go back to Milano.

Wow, I think I'll go back for another cup of coffee.... We went from Rossignol to Rossin to Rossignoli and back to Rossignol. Im still waking up and I'm confused. So was it a Rossignol or Rossignoli?

Cottered cranks lol I remember restoring bikes with those things and hammering myself.

I don't find it surprising at all that Rossignol made some bikes, not that I can clearly remember seeing any. Look started out in ski bindings, right?

Never seen or heard of Rossignol bikes. But I did hear of Cicli Rossignoli before.
Maybe that's good that Rossignol bikes don'e exist, cause I won't be in search of another French classic bike then, as I skid on Rossignol skis in the 80's and loved them.
