I'm a guy and I ride around with one of these + a mixte to run my errands. No one has ever laughed or looked at me funny. On the contrary, I've even gotten stopped just to ask me where I got that basket. Maybe a pannier basket is more acceptable? At any rate, it does the job, it looks nice and I don't care what people think.

Natural finish brown wicker is fine, but if it is white with flowers woven into it, that crosses the line.

There are myriad options for carrying your stuff on a bicycle. I would gather you want a wicker basket or you wouldn't have asked this question. It's your bike.

It's only "girly" if the baskets are pink.

Hey! My wife said the same thing, but it could also be because she's in the Army too.

I borrowed this for testing purposes. Newspaper flys out at 10mph, the puppy barfed in it before we got around block and well.....as for transporting cats it just doesn't work. I think I like the look though.

You could use a metal mesh basket. They're sturdy and useful.
