I have a question regarding a Sears Free Spirit I picked up at a garage sale. I got it and another bike for $5.
It has a Shimano 3CC hub.
It's missing it's shifter cable. But the bike is in overall good shape and rideable, although you can't shift. I haven't given it a whole lot of thought.
But now since I have a shifter and cable on its way to me, I started looking more closely at the bike and I realized that the shifting bell and cog are on opposite sides of the hub.
That isn't right is it?
I can't seem to find a diagram of the 3CC, but every other 3-speed hub I've seen the cog and bell are on the same side.

I briefly had a 3-speed set up that way and it seemed to work fine. I swapped it out on a different build and realized the cables had to be rerouted, fortunately the clamp-on cable guide was easily moved to the new bike and all went well.
