Classic Panniers from the Touring cyclist Shop???

One of my "holy grails" is a set of panniers from the Touring Cyclist Shop circa 1975, ideally blue. The handlebar bag bag was great too. Does anyone else here remember those?

Got any pics?

Great bags. It's 3 years plus since you posted your request. If you are still in the market there is a pair of red ones available on Ebay at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Touring-Cycl...-/120981789045
Now if you can find me the handlebar bag we're even.

Sold! Red will do 'till i find the blue to go with the handlebar bag my sister's been holding since the late '70s. Thanks so much for the heads-up! Hope I can return the favor some day.

OK, here's the pic!

When I rode my bike cross country with Bikecentennial in '76, I used these panniers. It was a family run operation that made great bags at the time. Mine were stolen with the bike I rode that summer later in the '70s. 8^(

Freshly cleaned and in great shape, here they are mounted on the Gordon. Wish they were blue, but just fine red. Now I have to find the handlebar bag to go with them, and I'll be back!

Last summer I bought a set of "pretty much as new" Cannondale panniers and found a matching handlebar bag. Back in the day when the bags weren't black. Color was cool then.

Pretty sure I have a purple bar bag from them kickin' around somewhere- that's halfway between red and blue. . .

A lot cleaner and brighter than the one I have on my bike for town rides. Just located the Touring Cyclist Shop catalogue from 1976. The set of two bags was $52.50 postpaid. The handlebar bag was $50 plus another $4.75 for the handlebar bag support. Panniers and handlebar bag were available in bright red, royal blue and safety yellow.

I have seen many handlebar bag attachment systems in the last 35 years but none work as well as the TCS system to stop sagging bag syndrome. My only complaint - the map case is a bit on the small side. I like the handlebar bag so much I just spent $45 getting it repaired rather than buy a new one.

Those bags were made by Kirtland, out of Boulder, CO. There was another brand called Velocipac, which was also
based out of Boulder.

Just picked up a pair of Velocipac rear panniers and a handlebar bag at a garage sale over the weekend. There's
something to be said about the basic hook and elastic band system those old panniers used; easily field repairable,
and they fit a wide range of racks.
