Campag drop outs: Do their set screw use specific thread?

Yes. It's a metric thread, but I don't know which one. You can get screws that will work at any hardware store.

The case is I do have a pair new adjuster screws, but one seem to not properly screw in the Campag drop out and the other one not at all. I am wondering whether the drop out threads are damaged or whether I should look out for another -Campag specific- pair.

if the screws have been missing for sometime, I suggest getting the a tap to chase the threads.

Metric thread.
I've used stainless metric fasteners with the end cut off and a slot filed in.
Cost about $1 and they look very nice.

I did some carefull trial and error with screws from a frame with similar drop outs and the outcome is the drop outs thread is damaged or dirty and should be cleaned. I do have the kit for that which contains the m3*0.5 (that is m3 std thread?) bit. Through a search on this forums I found it is that kind of thread.

M3 x 0.5 is the tap you need, (a M3 x 0.6 is also made but that's not the "standard" thread for this hole) just be sure to use plenty of oil when you run the tap through the hole, the last thing you want is for a tap to break off. If you think a broken screw is hard to get out, a broken tap is much harder. ;(

Today I cleaned the thread with utmost care. I did use "plenty of oil", thanks for your advise. I only cleaned the part that needed attention, so 1/3 of the actual lenght. All went fine. Now only to buy new adjuster screws, as the pair I intitially intended for it is toast.
