These are evidence that......

Function, da, Form, nyet?

Like many C&V items, definitely non-aero, and definitely, they work. They sure are ugly.

I wonder who made them?

I think they may be older but I am thinking maybe Cdale? unless they are an early Campi bit for their barends

afilado 08-20-10 03:05 PM

Those will look beautiful when cleaned up.

Pardon my ignorance, but.... what are they?

divineAndbright 08-20-10 03:24 PM

cable stops for downtube braze ons/ I actually find they are quite nice looking, i hate the ones shimano makes, with that clicking piece on the right side instead of a threaded end. I have some other style to, maybe campagnolo, both sides threaded.

Glad you asked before I had to. I thought they were cable stops but...sheesh. Talk about minimalist.

gaucho777 08-20-10 03:41 PM

They look like what you would use on the downtube to convert DT shifters to..you know... the "B" word.

???? bummer

RobbieTunes 08-20-10 05:58 PM

I can't believe two people like them.

Andrew F 08-20-10 08:26 PM

OK stop fullin' around, their toilet bowl fittings, right?

Roll-Monroe-Co 08-20-10 08:29 PM

I think I hear Mother calling...

They do have a certain Iron Curtain Suprematist air about them. If you want to get rid of them, Robbie, I will gladly take them, and even send you a couple Shimano ones. I like odd stuff like that.

Amani576 08-20-10 09:44 PM

I'll clean em' up if you need. I've got simichrome and a lot of spare time.

Gone, to divineandbright.

You people are nuts.

Those things are proof that engineers drink.

lord_athlon 08-20-10 11:02 PM

Id literally put those on my bike this instant

Robbie, I'm with you on this! :thumb:

I agreed on the first view, and when I went back for a second peek (after everyone raved about them), I nearly lost my breakfast.

I'd only use them if I were in the middle of Mongolia and mine broke, and it was all that was available. :p

Simonius 08-21-10 07:42 AM

Flathead bolts might be safer in a prang.
I have an even minimaller one - it is fibreglass-filled resin. Came with a nice racer in the spares bag, it took quite a while to figure out what it was.

RFC 08-21-10 08:50 AM

IMHO, butt ugly.

XR2 08-21-10 09:44 AM

I like the idea of a set screw to maintain adjustment. Shows some thought about what they'll be used for. Too bad someone beat me to 'em.

dit 08-21-10 09:54 AM

They are not the most attractive cable stops but then I am not very pickey about what I put on my bikes. I much prefer function and I would use them on my riders. There is no accounting for taste I guess.
