Decal opinion needed.

Redoing a Miyata 710. I got it back from the powder coaters the other day and I had planned on redecalling (even a word?) the frame but with a more modern look....I guess.
It's red frame and I was thinking I would panel the decal by using two decals....one being a solid white decal with thin parallel stripes on either end and then apply the 'MIYATA" onto it. Question is this....after reading another post about a Nashbar touring frame and how he "paneled" the decal by using paint and how I planned on using an actual decal.....well, I have to wonder if my idea isn't a good one....so I ask, what would you do? put a decal panel as a base with another decal over it for the name or paint the base color of the panel and then apply the name? Attached is a rough idea of what I am after....Miyata on the DT and the model "Seven 10" on the TT up by the head tube. |
I think you'd have a difficult time adhering a large decal around an entire tube, it could be done with lots of soapy water and extra good luck, but I think it's a big challenge to get it smooth, even and aligned. Far easier IMHO to spray the panel and then add the 2 stripes on the ends and 2 names to either side of panel: 4 separate decals. The "Seven 10" is a piece of cake, and a decal printer can make it a single decal with the black drop-shadow "booked" with opaque white script.
