Early Campy Ergo rebuild

I tried this over in "Bicycle Mechanics" and got nowhere.

I picked up a parts lot on Ebay last week with a set of 9spd Veloce brifters. The right "finger lever assembly" ,according to Branford's webpage, is broken. Does anyone know if the second generation Ergo repair piece is interchangable on the earlier model? Or should I just throw them back up as a set of parts levers and re-coup my investment.

I have not attempted any 9 speed but Im assuming this still applies: http://www.yellowjersey.org/ergo1.html

Nine speed is not all that old. Im not sure if yellow jersey is addressing the problem you are facing, perhaps not. I say open them up and see if it looks the same. If not, hopefully you're not out much but if so, you're in business. I think there are parts to go from 9-10 so at some point the mechanisms were similar. Branford was very good when I did my 10-speeds. Although I felt silly paying $25 for 4 little springs, they did work great and I dont know of anywhere else to get them. It sounds like you're set with parts but I think I have a set of 9-speed ergos in my extra parts...

Best of Luck,
