Posted as a Paramount on a local CL but not..Bike has a new home but not sure of the breed?? More touring spacing than race. here's some pics Stamped Italy on bottom of BB shell with ROTO I think...Campy drop-outs....nice parts too...$150.00:)

A picture of the complete bike might help.

not a Paramount, but it's clearly something good with those lugs and BB shell and 531 tubing...might be an American Custom.

i saw that as well - figured it was going to be picked up very quickly. nice ya talked him down too :) great grab - now post full pictures!

The owner was really cool. She really wanted it gone and I was surprised no one had grabbed it. Ironically, I was going to give her an extra 100.00 if it was a Paramount! Her ex-boyfriend from the early 80s built the bike. She claims he said it was a Paramount??? I showed her the BB and she was kinda stumped.....Bigger bike than she thought too. it is a 55cm...I post pics of the full bike later.............

Since it's a custom from a US builder, I wonder if it was from a Proteus "kit": they supplied a lot of Reynolds tubesets with the lugs and bits of customer's choice. Proteus/Paramount, both same initial.

Don't think so, doesn't look like their parts. I think the "built" referenced by the OP was referring to building a bike from parts, not building a frame.

OK here's some more photos...still needs a more detailed cleaning but nice bike with a nice mix of campy NR/R, Superbe and Dura-ace....Only one H20 cage mount....that means it is a custom or pre-84ish????

I can't help ID , but I just thought I'd compliment you on the bike. Great score (especially love the stars around the bottle mounts)

Does it have any serial # on it at all?

seems close enough. i ride anything from 54 to 57

some strange details: the Short (apparently Campy) DOs have the "portacatena" drilling, and the cable routing is above the BB, but not standard cable guides here, these look like one-offs. The juncture of the DO to the chainstay is very wide: is that just a choice not to grind the DO down to merge with the stay? or a very narrow stay? Anyway, some of those details (and including the single set of WB bosses) would point to a late '70s or early '80s frame, but there's the FD braze-on, sort of a later feature.

Any thoughts on the "Italy" and FOCO stamped on the BB shell..........Gonna put new rubber on it today and ride it! Have to raise the stem a wee bit more for my old back but this could be a really cool mystery ride..........

bobbycorno 08-27-10 09:10 AM

The writing on the bb shell refers only to where the shell was made, not the whole frame. Looks like a very nice frame overall - clean metalwork, nice detailing. Probably not the work of a master like Sachs, Weigle, Eisentraut, etc, but too nice for a typical Italian bike or a hobby builder. Regardless of it's provenance, I'd say you got a good 'un.

Tried to ride it...........Too frickin' short. I could make it work with a stem adapter to 1 1/8 and new stem but this is not kosher! Wall hanger til my son grows into it...........
