Death on a spring
|
I don't know about those things.
We had a sad local story recently. A local man stole someone's dog from their yard, hooked it to a leash on a bicycle and dragged it down a major four lane road. I don't know if the man was mentally not all there or if he was just cruel. Fortunately someone stopped the cyclist and called the police. The dog survived and was reunited with it's owner. My dog seems tends to just run along side with me even though he is not allowed to. There have been a few times riding on my street working the bugs out of a bike. I'll look down and there is my dog with his tongue out, running beside the bike. |
I have heard first hand far too many stories of cyclists trying to run their dogs on leashes, etc. It often ends in disaster for both the rider and the dog.

I think these things generated a lot of bandaid sales

Kind of like one of ways how to tell if you are really from Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia):
-If any of the men in your extended family died (young) just after hollering, "Hey youse guys.....Watch diss!!" (But I think it has to involve serious gravity or large motors, or both, to qualify....) |
I actually have one of those, and it's great. The spring keeps you from being pulled over, and the dog is able to run alongside. There is a little plastic tab that attaches to the end of the spring so that if there is a problem the dog is released pretty easily. I used mine for years until my dog got too old and we never had any problems.
On the other side, I had a friend who rode and held his dog's leash. The dog got distracted and pulled him off. He ended up with some brain damage because he didn't wear a helmet. Springers are awesome. |

I actually used it with my border collie. We would take the bike out to the paths and run off all of her energy when she was a puppy. She would just lope alongside with no worries.
It really is ingenious, and makes a lot of sense when you use it. I might even still have mine somewhere. The bike it was attached to is long gone, but I bet I kept it, it was expensive. |
