I've had this bike since the late 80s when I bought it from some fellow in NYC. it looked as bad as this when I bought it - but I didn't know any better. it's been great to ride over the years, in NY, France and Toronto. But it's a little small for me (60cm c-t) and then bottom bracket was shot when I finally decided to look at it. and so I said to heck with it, pass it on. but I can't decide if it merits a paint job. Noah the painter can make it look pristine with all the original decals etc. but can anyone more familiar with Bianchi models (calling Bianchigirl!) suggest if i could ever get my paint job investment back (I won't likely be riding it again, having accepted my 62cm fate) or should I just offer it up "as is". I mean, it doesn't even have Columbus or Campagnolo dropouts (it has Gipiemme). Peter |

oh that poor Bianchi. was the 600 group on it when you got it? was there ever a tubing decal on on it?
others I am sure will tell you unless you are going or a full restoration on something like a Herse or Hetchins you seldom your your investment back from a paintjob. there is nothing wrong with the Gipimme (we called the gip me) dropouts. late in the '80s early '90s Bianchi used them on most of their bikes. http://lh6.ggpht.com/_-WXbxayiEJ4/TH...chi%20full.JPG |
I think that bike would sell pretty well in the state that's in... no point in tightening your market by upping the cost and removing the patina.

I DIDN"T DO IT. I swear. I got it like that.
yes, it has seen better days. there was never a any tube makers decal on the frame except for that small Columbus one of the fork. a year ago or so, on this same forum you all helped me narrow down it's vintage and probably frame type. though I would have to look up that thread. it was actually all late 80s Dura Ace before I stripped it down. |

Hi pstock,
I'd probably leave it in that condition as bianchigirll suggests. If you do decide to sell it the new owner would then have the option of a resto or just leave it. If i'm not mistaken, the fork decals suggest that the frame is SLX - pretty good stuff - and a very nice frame. I'd be interested to know if the Bottom Bracket is English 68mm wide or Italian 70mm wide? |
It looks dirtier than abused. Get some Meguiars' Scratch X (or KIT Scratch Out) and polish out the entire frame. Should come out quite nicely and take those ugly lines out wherein there are scratches in the clearcoat.
