Two nice white Raleighs: a matched pair !!

See the pictures if you can & tell me what you think I've got here. Obviously Raleigh Lentons but how old ??

The serial numbers are RP7328XX and RP7289XX. Just 2 letters & six digits. Located on the plate under the seat where the rear brake attaches.

They certainly aren't old Lentons but they are something. Made in Canada, Shimano Tourney throughout. Six-speed. Paint is pearl & glistens a bit but looks white from a distance.

The Lenton name was given to these modern Raleighs which are basically a Sports that were equipped with 5 speeds and those look like 26 by 1.95 CST tyres.

The made in Canada puts them as being post 1978 in construction as this is when Raleigh started manufacturing bikes in Canada although many of their upper end models and folders were produced in Nottingham.

The earlier model of this bike that was made in the very late 70's was equipped with 26 by 1 3/8 tyres and had a Suntour drive train and cotter less crank and these frames are all but identical to the 3 speed Sports... these white ones are later production models.

So that's what those decals go on. I've been wondering ever since I first saw them on eBay (five years ago - and there's still a supply of 'em).

The tyres are the original CST - Cheng Shin Tyre - and the size is marked 44 X 584 (26 X 1 5/8 X 1 1/2)

Don't know about the rest of you, but those bikes look sweet.
How often do you see a utility frame with double internal cabling? And the woman's 'loop' frame is very well proportioned.
If these are the last of the "Sports development" I would say Bravo!

They remind me of the Raleigh Sprites, except the Sprites had 27" wheels instead of 26" wheels after about 1971.

Hows the weight on those two bikes? Do they seem built with decent tubes?
