Eddy Merckx Strada. Which tubing is this?

Greetings!

I've been a long time reader of the forums but it's the first time I dare ask a question to you experts so please forgive me

I am looking at buying a Merckx Strada. I understand the Stradas were not top of the line but it will be fine for me.

However I am wandering which kind of tubing is the frame made of. I'd rather have some nice butted tubing... Here is what the Columbus decal reads: Columbus - Tubi Speciali Trafilati - Strada - Acciaio CrMO - Eddy Merckx

So what do you think? Nice or not? Butted or straight gauge?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Probably Gara. Trafilati = drawn (as opposed to Rinforzati which means butted)

I thought Aelle is CMn and Gara is CrMo, but I am by no means an expert. Just my interpretation of the chart on The Bicycle Info Project.

You are likely correct. I seem to remember from a thread long ago that Strada was a proprietary seamed tubing for Merck, not really sure.

Thanks a lot to all. So it appears it is a basic straight gauge tubing

Not Aelle; it the OP's bike claims to be Crome-Moly.

Hey it's a Merckx and it's Columbus steel. There are a lot of people who would love to have it. Enjoy!

Not sure that it isn't butted tubing. My hazy recollection is that it was similar to Brain tubing. I've yet to hear anyone complain about a Merckx Strada.

Oh well you're probably right I am not a racer anyways and this is for pure enjoyment, and I love Merckx bikes so I believe I am going to go for it.

Cheers!
