anyone know where i can find the leather bag that goes on the back of this bike

Are you looking for the exact bag... or just something that fits the part? There are usually a handful of them on ebay.

Oldroads.com has some lesser quality bags:

If you want something nicer than you could get one from Carradice, Acorn, Brooks or Zimbale to name a few.

Or talk to Zaphod.

I put this 10 dollar bag on my 1973 Raleigh. There are more of these available if you like them.

The bag was 10 dollars. I WISH the bike had been... that was a tad more expensive.

Would you care to sell that bag for $11.00 and reap a $1.00 profit?

No, seriously, was this bag a one time purchase you fell into or is someone actualy selling that type of bag for $10.00 and has more to sell?

I bought the Old Roads vinyl bag for $21.95. The straps broke within a few weeks. Very very cheaply made. Seems made to be photographed but not used to carry anything.

That's a pretty good reproduction of what the original bag looked like for Raleighs. I have a 1966 with a bag with the same shape. The closure straps broke though so I picked up an NOS replacement on ebay. If you can't find one on ebay, Oldroads is an option. The difference with the Oldroads bag is that NOS has a rigid pressboard side insert riveted into the sides (so you wouldn't see the fold lines like you do in the Oldroads pic).

The one that mkeller has on his looks a lot like the (Schwinn Approved) bag on put on my old Schwinn Varsity.

The original bags on those bikes were some kind of vinyl, cloth-faced on the interior with thinnish leather straps--not fancy at all but pretty sturdy. I can't believe the prices they're fetching on eBay. So yes, I'd love to hear more about the $10 alternative!

My '73 Sports came with an original bag, made from "oilskin" material" like greenpage described. The leather straps were both quite worn and destined to break at the most in-opportune time. I had a shoe repair shop fab a couple of new leather straps using the originals as samples. Cost about $10 and the
bag is as good as new as seen below.

Ooh, that's a good idea. I just had a shoe repair place fix a tear in my (40+ year old) Brooks saddle; he could probably fix up some straps no prob.
