Hi,

Need help identifying my bike.

Univega Maxima.
Serial no: MA25619

Its a 58 cm, brown color frame. Also Is it possible that a Made in Japan frame be a Miyata?

Thanks.

I think it is a very rare '83 and 1/2 version made with experimental tubes that were plasma soldiered.

Any pics ?

Is that the frame made with Trellium-D and Duranium fork?

No that was in 83, this was a prototype for the 84 season

Thanks Bianchigirl,

Here are some snaps. The first 5 are a bit old, the remaining from today. I got this bike off CL for $250.

When riding it feels like it got off the assembly line in the 80's and then stored indoors.

While it could be made by Miyata, Miyata made a full line of bikes, from entry level basic bikes, to top of the line stuff. This one has the markings of a lower end model: stem shifters, claw RD hanger, turkey levers, steel seat post, swaged crankset with steel rings, etc.

Univega was a marketing company, outsourcing all production.

Hi Bikebahn you do realize I was being cheeky with my first response yes?

I agree with Work this looks like a lowerend model and likely form about '83/4ish. That is not to say it isn'y a good bike. Univega made great rides from the bottom of the barrell to top shelf and most of there offerings were pretty darn nice regardless of price point. While a tad on the heavy side this Mangalloy Triple Butted frame should be an excellent rider.

It is a great looking bike with the dark maroon paint w/ gold lug trim. I could think of a few things I would do to spruce it up a bit but that is just me.

I was almost sure it was a cheeky response till I saw Brian's post about the Duranium fork and then confirmed it.

While I'm aware its a low end model, it does feels fresh off the line although 28 years later, sturdy and solid. And Ive owned 2 Nuovo Sports before and can tell that they had a better set of components than the Maximas I currently have.

All in all, Thanks for the responses.
