Homebrewed "Phil Wood" bottom bracket?
Has anyone here tried using a bench grinder to modify a standard Shimano cartridge bottom bracket into a shoulderless version that allows for some chainline adjustment? The process is described here:

(Sorry I don't know how to make that appear as a hyperlink--maybe some kind soul will fix it for me.)
Anyway, it sounds plausible enough. I'd be interested to hear of any experiences people might have had with it.

I found that process too a while back. I wasn't concerned with chainline, but I was trying to upgrade a Swiss ball and cup BB on my '80 Peugeot. I didn't have to grind off the shoulder and I used the Phil swiss cups with the bare cartridge. They didn't fit on there quite as easily as the blog made it sound, but so far so good on the Peugeot.

I bought a French bike a few years ago, it had what I thought was a Phil BB, I remove the rings and it had a Stronglight spindle with sealed bearings... Now the how and why I will never know, Stronglight at one time made a sealed bearing BB, something happened to the cups and an resourceful mechanic used Phil rings, it fit pretty good. If the bike had Stronglight cranks I would have kept the set up, but it had Campagnolo, and there was not enough engagement for me...
I got a first generation Phil BB with English rings as payment for assisting on some bike work, so now I have one I can use in any number of ways...
