Older Allez question...
What are we paying for a older mid-80's Allez w/ Superbe/Specialized components. I have not found out if it is a Japanese frame or USA....NICE CONDITION TOO!

Who is we?

The royal we as in you. I have no idea what you (we) are paying for Allez these days. We (I) would pay decently (handsomely for you royals) for a 3Rensho built one.

Japanese built.... mid-80's
|
fords or chevy's kinda
Well. the reason I ask is I'm gonna pull the trigger on: the mid-80s Allez all original or a Bertoni shimano 600 re-painted but clean? Thanks for comments both positive and cynical....:notamused:

Probably not any more than the other decent Japanese steel bikes of the mid-80's. I would think San Diego pricing is similar to the Bay Area's and mid-80's Allez'zz seem to show up on Craigs from time to time but don't get any more than a similar quality Miyata, Fuji, etc.; $200-300. Sometimes you see sellers asking 350-400 for exceptional ones, but I don't know who is paying that. I have no idea what a 3Rensho frame would garner, although I suspect quit a bit more.

This is a typical post here. IMHO, it will probably go for 240 or so.

That one^ could be a Taiwanese-made frame, not as desirable as a Japanese-made Allez which would probably be by Miyata (unless you get lucky and stumble over a San Rensho-built one and an owner who doesn't know it...both are pretty rare!).
Hard to make the call between Allez and Bertoni without seeing pics of each...but I'd lean toward the Bertoni, both sight-unseen. |
Apparently some Allez owners think they're sitting on a gold mine - there was a 1986 Allez SE for sale on CL here in town about 10 days ago, asking $590! Ad's still up so who knows if it sold or not.

I almost got one for $350 but it sold. I don't know if that tells you much.
