I recently purchased a 1983 Bianchi Nuova 12/v

I had been looking for several months for a road bike. I kept seeing over priced euro garbage and beat up japanese imports as well as the no way I'm paying that much for a schimuffy. I kept getting beat to the punch on Saturdays cause I wasn't getting to the garage sales soon enough. "Oh sold that in the first 20 minutes" or " Should have been here half hour ago we had 2 bikes"... Got into a few email flames over specific pricing on some bikes. Like me replying "I think you accidentally added an extra zero to the price of your bike." That never went over very well. Then I saw this on craigslist for $150(ad was for his garag sale) I got there before 7 AM. We talked a little, both tires were flat, hadn't had a tune up in over ten years, forks weren't original and were quite rusty, rims were replaced not sure for better or worse though, broken cable guide, dirtier than the lineoleum under my ex girlfriends refridgerater... well anyway I asked him if I could steal it for $100. I just didn't want to pay $150 for something that needed more money put into it. He agreed to $125, I said I only have four ones is $124 ok? He said ok I handed him a wad of twenties and ones and we shook hands. I stuffed the bike into my little convertable. Then when I was at the bike shop buying tubes I noticed I had an extra twenty. I think I only gave him five, twenty dollar bills, not six. Ooops. Maybe I had it all along and forgot... Anyway it cleaned up better than I anticipated and it rides so much better than my converted trek 7000. By converted I mean road slicks.

So I figure I Bought this for $104 at a garage sale. Pretty clean, some nicks here and there some spots of rust on the components. Not much and looks like it will clean up easily. The owner said he blew a tube and hit a curb. Subsequently he replaced the forks and wheels. Doesn't look like any frame damage(cracks or ripples) and he did replace the rims and continued to ride it afterwards. I will be taking it to my LBS, Alpha Cycle in Vista, for a thorough exam. Forks are Tange CrMo or so the sticker says. A bit of rust on them too but I want to replace them any way. Some paint rubbed off near the top of the seat tube looks like zefal damage. Biggest issue is the last top tube cable brazon is broken. Probably going to dremel it off prime it and cover it with replacement celest paint. Then use a Dia Comp top tube clamp. Until I can find some place in San Diego that can replace the cable guide. I figure the clamp would look better than that darn zip tie.

Bonus
It also came with a seat bag with 2 screwdrivers, allen wrench set, tube patch kit(maybe dried out), tire levers, computer(batteries are dead) and a presta to schrader adapter. Also some spenco gel gloves which I washed with antibacterial soap, then machine washed and finally rinsed with plenty of bleach to brighten them up. Nice and bright and they fit great.

Bike Details

Campognolo Hubs, front and rear deraillers and shifters

Mavic MA40 700c rims

Specialized Kevlar tires

Bontrager tubes(replaced myself) buy 2 get on free.

Bianchi/Strada Crank 52t/42t Chainring unknown cassette guessing oem...

Shimono 600 Pedals

Modolo Front and rear brakes

3ttt Stem and handle bars

AGC Brake levers

Vetta Nuvola seat and C-15 computer

Unknown seat tube looks like cursive G and P on it but can't tell.

I had tossed around the idea that maybe I could combine my two bikes. I have an all origianl 1993 Trek 7000. I like my 7000 frame. Its aluminum and its purple. Its awesome. Purple frame, 700C rims, 42t/52t chain ring, better cranks, rapid fire shifters... Did I mention it's purple? But the Bianchi really cleaned up well can't wait to ride it to work tomorrow. I really want to get a feel for the difference. Took me nearly 2-3 months to find this deal but I am very very very happy with my purchase. I came close to some other good road bike deals too(Miyata, Trek, Centurion) but not close enough. Kind of glad I didn't now. I've always liked Bianchi. Rode one but never owned one. Now I do.

What do you all think? Should I Frankenstein the two bikes? If not... any ideas how best to replace the forks, cable guide brazeon and seat. What are the best replacements and any opinions on LBS in North County San Diego that can best help?

Yes this is posted in what's it worth but that's not what I'm asking here.

My bike History:
70's Mongoose (stolen)
70's Murray Beach Cruiser (stolen)
80's Shogun (wrecked)
80's Murray 12 speed (lost in space)
93 Purple Trek 7000. It's purple. It's awesome and I'll never get rid of this bike.

I couldn't see the pics either. sounds like a nice bike. I would not start swapping parts from the trek to the Bianchi just enjoy the Bianchi as it is.

the replacement fork is a chrome Tange? a bit of chrome polish will take care of some lite rust. loking for a replcement Celeste fork may take as long as finding the bike did.

your plan for the cable guide sounds good. having a replacement brazed on may be pricy when you start adding in paine as well.

seats are kind of personal I got to like Brooks over the summer but they are not for everyone.

if you having trouble with pics PM me and I'll have you email them and I'll post them

You might want to try photobucket or some other picture hosting service and put the pics in your post. I don't even like to wade through my own facebook page.

Original links up top worked for me.
Looks like a nice bike... enjoy it. I too have a similar spec'ed '83 Nuovo Alloro, and i LOVE racking up the miles on it.

I rode it to work today, it's so much smoother over the bumps than my Trek 7000.

Very nice bike.
I would keep the original components, as they are likely better than the ones on the 7000.
Do a basic rehab on your Tange fork and start searching for a celeste fork as suggested above.

For a touch over 100 bucks that is a great bike! Congrats!
