Univega Ultraleggera - photos.
I picked this up recently on Craigslist for less than the price of a pair of bibs and a jersey from Nashbar. Tange Prestige oversize 858 tubing, full 8 speed Dura Ace 8 Speed brifter group. This is a very nice bike.

Does anyone know where to get a dustcap for the cranks? I am missing one. This is a keeper for sure. When I finish tuning and taping I will put up after photos. |

Nice find!
|
nice one.

Wow that's a great looking bike. Elegance and simplicity. I love the flite saddle with that bike, I hope you're not planning on changing it. What are you thinking for bar tape?
|
I'm thinking black tape, I'm pretty simple. I like the way the flite looks, but I have to see how it rides before I make any promises about leaving it on there.
I haven't ridden it yet, and I can't wait. |
By the way, this thing must be pretty rare - these are now the only photos of this model on the web.
|
why does the tubing decal look like a Prestige Mountain bike tubing? ghreat looking bike though but I think it needs some research.

It does say it is MTB tubing, I assume that is why it is "oversized". I have been researching and can find nothing.
|
Pretty weird... oversized Prestige tubing with Dura-Ace components. But pretty cool! I'm jealous!
|
I've been noticing that later (as in late 80's, early 90's) Univegas seem to generally come with oversized tubing...maybe I'm on something, but it certainly seems that way.
|
Beauty!
|
It's fast and light, that's for sure. The paint has some chips but it's a beautiful pearlescent white very lightly tinted pink. I'll take my after photos with a real camera.
|
Serial number 050. How do I date it?
|
need bigger photos! are the drop outs vertical? I love oversized steel roadbikes, nice find.

Looks to be fillet brazed vs. tig welded. Very nice.
I think you've stumbled on to a real find! I doubt these were made in high volume. I could be wrong, but I've never seen or heard of that model. |

I be that thing will go like stink in style and comfort, I would sure be happy to have found that!
Enjoy it! |
Beautiful bike. I've always thought that Univegas were under rated, and that one seems to have been built to help dispel that myth.
|
Hot bike. I've seen that one a few times before, but it is quite rare. It might even be more rare than the Super Strada model.
|
Nice find. Looking to forward to some nicer pics when it's all ready!

When I answered a CL ad last winter for a Superstrada I was expecting the rare, older DA version and was disappointed to find this instead. Mid 90's tig welded version with RSX STI group. Can't really complain though, for $100 I got a great bad weather/commuter.
http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs059...._3776235_n.jpg The newer Super Strada sure looks like the Raleigh R-500 I had: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2792/...1b2ca0d1_z.jpg It came with a near identical spec. |
Nice find. How long is that stem?
