Advice please re building up this unconventional Pinarello
I am ready to build up this unconventional (and I think beautiful) mid 80's Pinarello.
Because it is such a world turning issue, I am seeking your advice about how to build it up with components I have on hand. Here are the options. What do you think?
1) Full Campy 6-speed from my Pinarello Record including '84 Record RD.
2) Full Dura Ace 6-speed SIS.
3) Dura Ace option but with 600 RD and 8-speed brifters.
4) Mix and match from the best above.
As always, your astute and erudite opinions are appreciated.
Thx

All my bikes are Campagnolo except for a new cross bike I bought that is mainly Shimano but I do have a full 6 speed Dura Ace SIS UniGlide group that came with a bike a few years ago and I am building up an 84 Merckx with it as we speak. It is great stuff and I am really pleased so far. That being said, it is a Pinarello and you have the Campy gruppo....

Mid 80's?, why not go for 7 speed. Shimano and Regina made many 7 speed FWs and it shouldn't be that hard to find them. If you do want a full Italian bike, you cannot go wrong with a full SR gruppo on it.
A DA7400 series group with SIS/friction shifting will be also very period correct (not sure though if it supports 7 speeds) and will give you legendary Shimano DA group performance, so you're on the right track, I'd follow through with making sure tyou have the 7400 series aero levers to complete the mid 80's configuration. Personally I don't like brifters on my classic bikes so I cannot recommend them. but if you insist on brifters, a first series Ergo shifter system from Campagnolo will be the ticket.
BTW,........French stuff will look lost on that frame.....
